is they take 3 kids EA from your school, you're one of the top feeders into GU in the country |
I think they should. So it's odd it seems to favor the NY schools over Boston or Chi Jesuit HSs |
DP. Makes sense to me. However, my older kid attended a Jesuit high school not on the east or west coasts, and while my older kid did not apply, from Naviance it looks like a Georgetown admit seemed particularly tough. Maybe they had more applicants, as a Jesuit school, I don't know. My senior who is applying this year attends a public magnet; we'll see. |
| I’m not sure a kid interested in sociology would love GU’s intense pre-professional, wealth-first vibe—or its very frat-like “student athlete” culture. For IR it would be worth it. |
I don’t think that’s right. Dp, a small, academically rigorous private in the MidAtlantic area. Georgetown acceptance rate is April d30 percent for our school. So 2 to 4 students a year attend. I don’t think we would qualify as their biggest feeder. |
Should be “about 30 percent” |
3 kids EA is different than 2-4 kids during EA/RD both. |
Is this specific to a certain school like SFS or business ? |
The grading rules limiting the number of As are enforced across all the schools. Profs can apply for exceptions but the hurdles are not insubstantial. This system really encourages cutthroat behavior across the board. And, it carries through to social activities, particularly clubs. |
|
I also have a kid at Georgetown and another at an Ivy. I would say the level of competitiveness is similar.
Certain clubs at Georgetown are very competitive. Might be best not to go after those, in my opinion. |
I disagree with Georgetown being frat like. There are no frats and party culture is pretty par for the course for most colleges. I do agree with the pre-professional vibe, and think a sociology major would be happier elsewhere. Georgetown is best for kids who have a very clear sense that they want to work in government, law, NGOs, business, etc. |
The school can't combat this on it's own when the city of DC doesn't help manage rat population in the Georgetown area (outside of campus). There are rats running every one of those streets at night. Charles Village in Baltimore has the same problem. |
Greek life at Hopkins is a different animal than what most people consider to be Greek life. |
Not for kids that don't like greek life and non-drinking culture.... Yes, both types exist at Georgetown (and at any school) but there will be peers who aren't into that culture too. |
Sure - but let's be honest - Georgetown is not hurting for top level students choosing to attend. |
