| What is the Olympic protocol on this? Wtf |
| Sydney McLaughlin is amazing |
Well that's a certainty. Loads of swimmers tested positive. |
Union Catholic for the win! |
100% this. Why did they even test him? |
Apparently the Olympic protocol is that athletes/countries can make their own decisions about whether to compete with Covid. Just like they presumably could make that call with any other viral illness. |
+1 Still amazing to me. Ran the 200m and came in 3rd with Covid. I couldn't even get out of bed. And he has asthma? Athletes are amazing. |
Give me a break. Everyone competing at the Olympics would want to continue if they came down with covid. Understandably. These aren't people at risk from covid. |
|
SYDNEY!!! that was unreal. We might legit see a sub-50 from her eventually. Solid race by Cockrell for the silver.
Bol looked gassed. Wonder if the anchor for the mixed relay took it out of her. I would be interested to see if Syd tries the flat 400 at some point. Would dearly love to see Marita Koch’s WR go down in flames. No records from East Germany should still be on the books, given what we know definitively about their state-sponsored doping in the 80s. |

A lot of athletes have covid. It is spreading though the athletes.
But these are young healthy fit adults. A bit of a virus isn't really a big deal and they aren't going to skip the biggest competition of their lives for the sniffles or a sore throat or a headache. |
| Femke Bol looked sick too. She was just not herself. She ran a really slow time. |
I'm sure the Olympic Village is a breeding ground for all kinds of viruses. The fact that you're so riled up that it's Covid is crazy. So if he had just a rhinovirus you wouldn't be butt hurt? |
Sure they would want to. But they shouldn’t And while being fit helps, being asthmatic is a risk factor and should not be ignored just because he’s an athlete. It’d still many times more deadly than a cold. Facts. |
This is the most low-class expression. |
Not many times more deadly when you include influenza and pneumonia. |
