The unknown factor is how much recruiting $ can be offered. They need to offer the most to the first and so on. If the school is really interested she may at least get a text to set up a call on 9/1 |
| UNC may be best place for academics, lacrosse and social life in US. |
It's a good combo for sure but these are 20 yo athletes, they would have fun wherever they go. |
You would have to over-index on social life to reach that conclusion considering the various higher tier academic institutions with great lacrosse programs. For reference, here is the list of all the schools with both a higher US News academic ranking and a higher 2024 NCAA D1 lacrosse ranking: Northwestern University University of Pennsylvania Yale University Princeton University Johns Hopkins University Stanford University University of Michigan--Ann Arbor University of Notre Dame |
| My point was focused on 3 factors—that poll does not measure student quality of life. Have you ever been in Chapel Hill on an early spring day…in February? Weather is better than any of those schools with the exception of Stanford and kids have a great time, too. |
| And with the exception of NW, none of those schools has sniffed a natty in decades. Check UNC’s results…… |
| what about JMU Just Missed Uva. |
Yes, NW would probably be the winner of this contest. Then UNC, BC, and Maryland in no particular. |
| UNC may be best place for academics, lacrosse and social life in the Raleigh Durham area. |
This is a tough one. I’d probably put Duke at number one, even with a lower tier lacrosse program. UNC would be my clear number two in the Raleigh Durham area. |
| That’s OK because the odds of anyone in this area being recruited by UNC is pretty low. |
Have you been to Durham lately? if you can't safely walk off campus, I question calling the social life good. Clearly Duke has the academics, and really good, but not top 10, lacrosse. |
I appreciate the homework, but UNC had a down year. This was not a typical UNC team. You'd have to place them in top-5 of last 6 years correct? Northwestern is the only team listed above that you'd say beats them in academic and lacrosse rankings. |
2025 plays for cap blue and stoneridge is committed to UNC.. |
Be aware that the “social” side of things at all of the schools mentioned is driven 100% by lacrosse. You live, eat, train, lift, practice, study, and socialize with the team, every day. There is often a starter vs backup culture at these schools too: coaches typically focus attention on the players on the field and the starters tend to close ranks and fraternize among themselves. Very few underclasswomen get playing time at these schools - to a HS player used to getting tons of glory, that can be a brutal transition. Bragging rights come with getting recruited to these schools but the true experience is often something very different. Better social experiences might be found at the strong academics in the teens and 20s where starters don’t tend to have a superiority complex, team bonds are strong, big wins against top 10 teams feel like superbowl victories, opportunity for playing time is very high, and engagement with students and opportunities outside of lacrosse isn’t just allowed but encouraged. Think hard about the kind of experience you want for your kid and guide them accordingly. |
