Why is there such a stigma associated with attending a community college when it's only temporary?

As a parent, I wouldn’t allow my child to attend NOVA but we did look at some other 2 year community colleges besides NOVA that had slightly better outcomes and a more traditional full time student population.

The classes are not on par with a 4 yr college classes. The classes at the 100 level were what you would expect at the high school level. By the 3rd week at least half the class had stopped showing up. Talking to those in the class a lot of them worked and just choose work over school. And then some were really struggling bc English was not their first language I think very few students are going full time and focusing solely on school.

Check your privilege. This likely wasn't a "choice"

JFYI, about tatts, my close relative came home from a year at a high-ranking SLAC all tatted up, and we've since discovered that seemingly most of the undergrads get tatts. Another close family friend came home from a top state flagship with a huge side torso tatt. I'm not sure if it's just a bunch of spoiled upper middle class kids trying to be "hard" or what, but I would say most young people get tattoos, college or not. It's actually now a rare thing for someone NOT to have a tattoo.

Students whose families can't or won't support them through college have access to financial resources from the college. We're living in 2024, not 1924. The days where educational systems punish kids from poor families for something beyond their control are long gone.
