Not really. BU is Northeastern. NYU but the students not as good. Drexel. A little GWU.

BC is Duke, Wake Forest.

Drexel is two levels below BU.
GWU is a level below..

Duke is two levels above BC.

What schools are in between Duke and BC but similar in feel?

BC has more of a traditional campus - beautiful architecture and grounds. BU is an urban campus. BC also has better athletics with football, basketball, hockey, and lacrosse drawing good crowds and school spirit. BU really only has hockey. Know many people who did not get into BC and ended up at BU.

BU is the slightly easier admit, punts some students to spring (following in NEU's footsteps a smitch) and even after that still having test scores just a tad under BC's, and has less of a self-selecting applicant pool. That said, they are fairly close for admission, and it's possible to get into one but not the other.

Northeastern doesn't have Spring admit.

N.U.in: is a Spring admit program.

No it's not. You start in the Fall.

The why don't they qualify for federal financial aid in the fall?

Villanova?

I have seen lists of Catholic colleges in terms of competitiveness that go Georgetown, Notre Dame, BC, Villanova, Fordham, Providence College/Fairfield. This is an old hierarchy. My cousins that went to BC High in the late 70s/80s went to Georgetown and Fairfield.

Villanova?

Villanova is not "in between" the rank of Duke and BC

But how Catholic is it really? What does that look like in day-to-day student life?

(I'm asking about the CURRENT student experience, not what it was like (or its reputation) in 1985-2005.)

BC, like most Catholic schools, has been getting more Catholic lately. Not as much as ND, but I'm told it's a noticeable difference from the late 90s. I would not go there expecting even Georgetown level Catholic lite-ness.

How so? Can you give some specifics?

several pps have said this is not true
this is not true at least regarding BC and Georgetown

There aren't any.

But I think I understand the vibe you're going for. At that level, it's Duke and Vanderbilt. And among the Catholics, it's Notre Dame, Georgetown, and then BC.

Maybe Michigan?

Thank you. Yes. Exactly what I meant.

The Catholic aspect of BC is a red herring for us. It’s the personality/culture we’re going for. And the size. So Vandy is a great one for us to look at. Thanks! (The others are excellent schools, too, but probably too big for DC.)

BU is nerdy, urban (actually in Boston), grade deflation, diverse, LGBT-friendly, non-denominational, no real sport except hockey, sprawling campus, close to Fenway

BC does not have frats and grades are not inflated, trust me.

Also half IN Boston.

Mostly correct, except BC does not have greek life nor grade inflation

You don’t need frats to be fratty.

Grade inflation is nothing like the Ivys but they have fluffy classes to boost GPA.

Both are places people go to when they don't get into Harvard but still want the Boston experience and to rub shoulders with the Harvard kids. I am not joking.

I don’t know where you got the idea that BC & BU kids are actively trying to rub shoulders (or any other body parts) with Harvard people

Oh just having grown up nearby and seen it with my own eyes, decade after decade....

See WHAT?

Try. To. Improve. Your. Reading. Comprehension.

No, sweetcakes, the question was WHAT did you see? Because I lived around there too & I think you’re lying about seeing a bunch of BU & BC students invading Cambridge hoping to meet Harvard students. Yes, I said lying.
