You make this assumption that the 33k undergrads are all lumped into the same mass of students. When you separate out the classes, there are about 8,000-8500 pear year at Michigan. They are all jumbled together across different dorms as freshmen, but as sophomores and going forward, they generally tend to self-segregate based on friend groups and which "school" they are in, Engineering, Ross, etc,. So you have to look at it more as an opportunity to "find their people" than it being so big. It is easy to cut down the size based on activities, clubs etc. |
| BC . Especially if oos full-pay at Michigan. |
That was my first thought as someone who worked in the IT dept at BC for a bit over twenty years ago. |
It’s a pretty common perception from people who think that all large public universities are pretty much the same. You won’t hear that very often from Michigan graduates. |
| Two totally different schools. My child chose not to apply to BC because of the preppy, lax bro culture but still a very good school. |
Michigan and UVA are the most expensive oos state flagships in the country. It depends on major/school, and tuition goes up junior and senior years, but it is at least 60k tuition and fees a year at Michigan. Can’t imagine people would pay that instead of going to BC, unless they conflate prestige with US News’ big state U bias and grad school rankings. If anything, BC is more prestigious for undergrad to the people who know — but that’s not the sample of folks on this site. |
| They’re completely different. I can’t imagine liking one and also liking the other. |
“The people who know” don’t consider BC more prestigious for undergrad. Stop spouting nonsense. |

BC #8 Michigan #16 I’d say they’re pretty comparable. |
And the 8k are 2k each year. |
