Why is Biden not addressing Israel or the university protests?

Don’t come crying to the rest of us when you realize you sat on your hands when the threat of authoritarianism loomed over America. There’s no such thing as a protest vote.

Who do you think will be learning the lesson here?

If Biden loses, other than removing him from office, what benefit is there to Palestinian supporters? What do you believe Trump, in conjunction with the Republicans on Congress will do differently?

DP, but it seems clear to me that this is a medium/long-term play to bend the Democratic leadership to follow where the youth are leading it. Its a calculated risk to have four years of Trump to get a "better" candidate in 28+. Its about the only move one can make to break the Israeli control of American politics.

This precisely. It’s a sacrifice for a better future. As in the one those students have to live in.

They don’t. They think Democrats will change in 2029. Giving the benefit of the doubt, they’re brand new to following politics.

Hopelessly naive. College students aren’t voting on Israel/Gaza. They protest. That’s what college kids do. That’s what I did. US policy in Israel isn’t changing regardless of party is in power.

Pregnant women would like a word. Seriously, Gaza is NOT the issue you think it is.

Do pregnant women in Gaza have worth to you? The dead pregnant women who having post mortem c sections? The pregnant women who are having c sections without anesthesia? The malnourished pregnant women giving birth to 5 lb babies and then not having enough milk or clean water to feed them?

What is happening in Gaza is more important to me personally than abortion rights.

Staying home or voting for Trump isn’t going to help anyone in Gaza.

DP

I think the calculus is more like this: I’m willing to sacrifice short-term discomfort for the long-term gain of suffocating the part of the democratic party that MIGHT be salvageable.

Easy for me to say because I’m not likely to suffer under a second Trump administration, but I also think there is a grave misunderstanding of how badly President Biden has mishandled this situation. He has looked inept and cuckolded by Netanyahu at best, and criminally complicit in genocidal war crimes at worst.

I am Muslim and this is the type of conversation I have been having . We certainly don't think things will be easier for us as Muslim Americans living under a Trump presidency. I have always voted D, but we can't just have have our votes taken for granted.

I am African American, and I have the same concerns.

This is 💯 on Biden and the Democrats. If he stepped down at the convention and the DNC installed Gretchen Whitmer, or similar, it would mobilize all Dem and likely-Dem voters. That’s the only way to save the party in 2024. A Dem who wasn’t involved with the war would also give everyone time to re-group.

If the democratic party dies, so be it. You have to take risks.

This thread is full of bad actors. Online trolls trying to persuade American voters.

There will be no 2028 dem nominee if you sit out to “teach them a lesson”. You may think you’re being altruistic but you’re actually being naive and self-centered. And it will harm America.

So you think Trump will outlaw elections? How will he do that?

I’m pp and have warned about this. But I’m am also getting very tired of the Dems and am starting to check out. I held my nose to vote for Biden the first time and I’ve never voted R in my life. But, they are running a bad candidate and the tide is really shifting, and they seem blind to it. I’m also angry for my GenZ kids.

We were at the brink of totalitarian in the Gilded Age and managed to turn it around. I think pp’s are right that the Dems are now just taking advantage of a lot of voters.

This is the hilarious part, we have 4 years of evidence of how he would operate. He's now 8 years older, burned most of the competent people that would work for him, and in general second terms are sad echos of first terms. The real dangers of a second Trump term are that not much would get done while the media spins people up to generate clicks.

There are 340+ million people in the US. Democrats can't cater to your every whim.

The ignorance and immaturity in so many of these posts is depressing.

I will vote for Biden but I’m going to vote differently in some of the other elections. I 100% support Israel. They’re the only democracy in the Middle East and they were barbarically attacked. I think there is going to be a lot of lane switching and politics shifting happening across the board. I think that’s good. People need to vote on issues rather than pick a party. Now if only the moderate Republicans and moderate non-progressive Democrats could get together and disempower both the pro Hamas mob and the right wing extremists that would be great. Extremism is bad for the country, from either direction.

Democracies don't commit genocide or arrest and assault their citizens for opposing genocide. Democracies aren't ruled by a criminal despot or right wing religious zealots.

No, the only bad actors are elected officials who are beholden to Russia and Israel.

Calculated risks, right?

What's the calculation here?

I don't see anything resembling calculation or planning in any of the far left's "strategy".

Looks more like "let's burn it all down and hope that something better comes along".
