Yes, OP I also notice and I know people in my life who still mask and I know their personal situations and it's not any of the above. Some portion of these people just have mental health issues (anxiety) but saying that or thinking that will just get you berated.

Was coming here to post just this. Yes, there are legitimate reasons for some to mask. But the one person I know who still does religiously—and carries around not one, but two CO2 monitors AND requires her teenagers to mask outside—has none of those reasons and had mental health problems before Covid came along to give her something new to fixate on.

We're also supposed to act like it's perfectly normal to talk to these people with masks on and never see their face and it's no trouble hearing them either. If you mention any of that, you will similarly get berated.

Just don't say anything OP.

Yep. The same way you would talk to someone with hearing aids, canes, glasses, etc. It's a tool that some people need to use or choose to use for their health.

Yes, you are supposed to "act like...". Too bad so sad.
About a year and a half ago a duo from the DOD IG office came to interview a team regarding a routine audit, we met with them one at a time, during my meeting, at the beginning, one of the guys said "oh I won't be able to hear you with your mask"--we were sitting around a very small table. I ignored him and meeting proceeded.

OP you're a moron if you can't think this though in your mind. It's scary your mind can't even go there!

Glasses? That's a stretch. A cane? What the actual F?

I don't give a crap anymore and just avoid people with masks in noisier social situations. In large group settings I just accept that I'm not going to hear what they're saying. Oh well. Sorry if it's a made up problem that I can't hear you. These same people will not be able to be heard and people will tell them that and then some will proceed to take the mask off to talk, which what's the point again then?

I'm sick of being gaslit on this topic.

Er...what if he legitimately had a hearing problem? For some people they need to read lips.

Sounds like it’s your problem.

This!!! How is somebody else using a mask impact you? Just don't Understand why somebody would care. I have a coworker with an auto immune disorder and she wears masks every day. I think nothing of it.

Should I assume they are unvaxxed? Just super paranoid or something??

I find this so weird.

My fed dh masks every day he goes into the office so he is less likely to bring something home to me, because I have autoimmune issues.

Most of his coworkers who did bare minimum vaccinations also don't bother to mask.

One has had Covid 4 times now, another developed an autoimmune disorder of her own after getting Covid, was also one who refused to mask even while dealing with dh in close quarters. Now she's on disability.

Dh is required to go into the office at least twice a week; a few other people he knows, mostly 50+ mask due to their own heat conditions or their partners or kids health conditions.

So for the sake of argument let's assume it's just anxiety. The mask helps them manage that anxiety. Why would you have a problem with the harmless way someone manages a mental health issue?

Hi! I’m op and it’s not that “I care so much!” - really; I have never asked one them and never will - which is why I asked on an anonymous forum that’s free to use.

But don’t you find it a little bit weird to still be doing this in April 2024 ?

OP, a lot of people do weird things. The fact that you are asking this and saying this is weird really shows that you do care about this.

it's normal to be unsettled by people who don't properly blend into society.

Wearing a mask in 2024 doesn't qualify as this.

What? Of course it does. Well-adjusted people do not wear masks in 2024. It's akin to being uncomfortable if an unkempt man muttering to himself approaches you on the street.

Well, then a good number of the people I work with "don't properly blend into society" according to you. But the thing is ... they do. Just fine. So I think it is you who has the issue. Obsessing over what other people are doing like this, to the extent you are equating people who wear masks with people who are "unkempt" and "muttering" and approaching people on the street, is over the top. Or maybe you are just low IQ and can't understand things?

+1,000

The thinking that one should be afraid of or weirded out by others choosing to mask is, in itself, weird. It demonstrates a deep need to judge and comes from people who don't realize they are ceding a huge amount of their mental energy to judging and thinking about what others do. Yet these same people insist they are somehow more mentally fit than those who choose to mask, an act which affects the judgy ones how much? Not at all.

Judge away, PPs with an issue. You have no idea, zero, nada, none, why we or anyone else is masking, so your judgement is especially uninformed and arrogant.

well, the two people who still mask in my office are the head HR/operations people, so they make a lot of decisions. Because of them, we cannot have all-staff meetings on site because they think the conference room does not have enough ventilation. This means we all have to travel once a month, and it's a pain.

The head of HR wears a mask and keeps her office door shut, when she comes in, which is not often. This is not a great look for a HR person.

It's also annoying that they periodically take off their masks, so I just don't understand why they mask at all.

We still do mostly Zoom meetings now, even when everyone is in the building.

Not sure why.

Anti-vaxxer/maskers are so unhinged.

Omg! How dare someone else do something I personally disagree with! How ever will I go on!
