Anyone else disappointed about graduation?

As opposed to all the way to DAR. UMBC is much easier.

Distance and some are having issue with that UMBC is in a Baltimore suburb not a DC one. And MCPS being a suburb of DC, feel the ceremonies should be held in DC or close by areas of DC, not near Baltimore. MCPS may have tried for UMD-College Park, not sure what happened. Relatives are coming from near and far for some families and with more space-seating in Catonsville, relatives can attend in person rather than watch it online if that is even an option (middle schools had livestreamed promotions as families only received two tickets per student).

None of us are excited to get up early and drive up to Baltimore for this impersonal graduation, and I don't even want to ask family to do this. My kid is already asking if they can just skip and sleep in. Is there a way to make this celebratory? Go to lunch afterwards?

Suck it up and go. May regret later not going.

OP - is your kids graduating from RM

I guess I'm one of the only parents who is glad graduation will be held at UMBC. Although nice in theory, I would not want the ceremony to be held in the football stadium. Not enough tickets, uncomfortable seats, weather issues.

I wouldn't want it at DAR either. Hassle to get to, parking would be a nightmare, dealing with grandparents in that situation would be such a pain.

I see UMBC as the best bet. Easy parking. Easy to get to. Plenty of tickets. Come back home and have then have the celebratory dinner.

lol, but then again schools like BCC and Churchill have their graduations at UMBC yet they could’ve had theirs at DAR since they’re more near it.

Yet you can drive 4 hours for a travel game.
Guarantee no one would be complaining if UMBC was another school with “prestige”. Bunch of ridiculous strivers.

Most people probably don't care about prestige of the university (yes, it has an acceptance rate of near 80 % so no it's not Harvard), but rather it being closer to Baltimore. If Baltimore HSs held theirs at UMBC, people would complain about the distance from Bmore city to UMBC too, but maybe less complaints as UMBC is in a suburb of Bmore. Just as here, people would probably complain less if MCPS held ceremonies at UMD College Park. For those close to the midpoint between DC-MD line and UMBC, they probably don't care as they are in the middle. And for families in northern MoCo such as Damascus, it may be faster to get to UMBC than say College Park?.

MCPS it is gonna be the best one ever! Enjoy and cheers to all the hardworking seniors and their hardworking parents/guardians!

I just received a petition for Churchill about moving the graduation for UMBC back to the school. Personally, I would prefer that…as long as the weather is good.

Have heard it is expensive to use the HS field so where else could it be held at the school? How about around the corner at the Bolger Center-Potomac?

Bolger - our backyard! Is place large enough to hold 2000+ students and additional 4000+ guests?

Check out Columbia as you can get a little further away from UMBC but not come all the ay back to Moco. There are some restaurants that are "waterfront" near Merriweather Post. I know there's a GRillmarx but not sure if it's waterfront. Stanford Grill is good too - not near water front.

Where you will be joined by all the other families celebrating and HCCPS students, HoCo employees right around meal times. Give your business to MoCo instead

Yep. We were thinking of skipping it. Dc barely knows anyone in the school. We will all suffer through it though in the end.
