Maybe I’m parsing this too closely, but it sounds like there is still a path to do one YiW, one year in CAS in Charlottesville and then enter Mcintire as a 2nd year? So a total of five years? Has anyone explored this or confirmed it?

But now McIntire starts 2nd year. It’s in writing that the YiW is for A&S and you can’t do McIntire. Seems pretty clear.

We have friends whose oldest did this when the YiW was probably in its second year? The cohort was even smaller (70?) and they were a tight bunch. They moved to UVA and stayed friends. Between YiW and high school friends, she probably had a larger friend group than most.

Can you link to where it says you can’t do YiW to Mcintire? Because that seems different than “you can’t do YiW to Mcintire in four years”.

Do you think McIntire admissions is going to take a waitlisted kid over those who were admitted to UVA even if the waitlisted one was willing to do an extra year?

Why not, if the student dives in and really takes advantage of what he can do at UVA? Not every student is fully baked when applying to college at 17.

They will consider everyone. They admit NOVA transfers, just read on CC and Reddit who gets admitted.

+1

It's a an option for kids that just are getting into gear; a 4.8 kid started early but why penalize for a late start?

One thing of America - you can be 90 and have a shot at Harvard. We don't live in a country where if you don't get in T10 college after HS then your life is dead. We need more Wise.

Yes, this has been confirmed by McIntire. You can still apply during your second year and spend 3 years in McIntire. So 2+3=5.

Alternatively, McIntire offers 5th year MS in Commerce for all students post graduation.
They also started offering minors in commerce so those who choose Econ can do one of four commerce minors: https://www.commerce.virginia.edu/minors

Parent of current YiW student who spoke with McIntire many times to clarify and verify all this.
