Syracuse hasn't been mentioned yet - a ton of drugs there

Syracuse has been mentioned a few times. No more drugs than other schools, imo. -- alum

UVA was once a top-ranked party school.

Are the people commenting about their experiences visiting these party schools in college or do they have kids in college?

Michigan huge party school

Caltech is a total party school.

Really? I am actually excited to hear Georgetown parties. Do tell!! My DC refuses to even apply because they think the social life is boring compared to other comparable schools.

UMiami does not fit this definition. The campus is not big, the student population is not huge, the immediate area is not a bar hangout college town. Sure, it's fun but it's not the raging party school everyone loves to assume.

Oh, gosh - what year is your experience from? My dd spent a week at UMiami to visit a friend in January and said it was on a wholeeee 'nother level. And said DD attends Wisconsin, which is not exactly BYU in terms of partying if you catch my drift.

You laugh, but my son (who attends a different school in Boston) dates someone from MIT and has told me some stories about the MIT parties he's attended...

Many people don't realize this but MIT has one of the highest per-capita rates of Greek life participation....

Pretty much all colleges have drinking and drugs, big schools have big parties but also big academics. When I think of a "party school" I think of places where the parties are the primary thing people associate with the school. I'd go with JMU, Radford, West Virginia, and ECU.

Per DD, current U senior: "ONE time. There was ONE party on a yacht. Jeez."

I think that poster must be harkening back to St. Elmo’s fires day. I’ve also heard that there isn’t much of a party scene and kids go to whatever bars will take their ids.

Your dd must think you don’t know who Alix Earle is.

lol. My dd has a friend who is a junior (regular UMC white girl from the NE) and she regularly parties in SB/on boats. It's not just one party and it's not just influencers.

You have GOT to be kidding
I thought that same. I visited W&M with one of my son's as he was interested in it. It's a big nerd school IMO

Can't beleive no one has mentioned JMU

W&M is very social school in a number of ways and there are parties, but not a big party school like many are thinking on this thread.

Greek life is not that important to the students at MIT. We are an MIT family. Greek life is more important at certain other schools (which I won't mention because people like to pile it on to a couple schools on DCUM, and that school is one of them). When these threads are started, it seems that someone is just trying to stir the pot, or interject information on a topic they have not experienced first hand, and know very little about.

In general, Greek life is a more southern phenomenon, to this day. Students don't attend northern schools for tailgating and Greek life, on the whole. But you already knew that, or should have.
