Yeah also they have a small territory and a social structure. “Humane” traps are just another form of torture you can feel better about if you want to.

I never see this method posted but my mother tented her house, much like you would for termites. And plugged the holes.

+1. OP, be aware, mice can climb anything, anywhere. You have to look for any holes outside and inside the house, and plug any holes with steel wool - which is probably the only thing mice can not gnaw through - in addition to setting traps. The old fashioned wood traps work fine, you can just toss the whole thing, corpse and all.

So sorry. I must say, steel wool is flammable. Replace w copper

It’s always plumbing or gas lines.

Afraid of poison because everyone says they will die in the walls and smell. I’d almost prefer that over this. Droppings everywhere.

You need a cat, and not any cat. You need a mouser.

And keep him indoors so he gets his fun from getting your mice, not the outdoor animals.

You all. This is not normal. You can live like this. If it was a rental it would be deemed uninhabitable. What is wrong with you?

Can’t live like this.

Just because you delete a post it doesn’t mean it’s not true. Having a persistent infestation means your place is dangerous and uninhabitable. At these levels, it’s absurdly dangerous.

Gross, where are you located OP? I rented a place that was awful with mice and moved. I saw the rental sold recently and I sometimes wonder if folks knew what they were getting. It was in south Arlington.

We refused a rental b/c saw droppings. Agent said it was normal - this was a $10k rental in today’s money. Not normal.

Regardless if rental or owned, you have to follow the water and gas lines, walk the perimeter and plug up all the holes. Sometimes they will have eaten the floorboards under the kitchen.

We removed and replaced all the floorboards; packed all the gaps everywhere with copper mesh (not steel wool which many don’t know is very flammable) or steel plates. Closed up all the holes around with cement (and again copper or steel plates). Does a great job on the insects too. The only issue we’ve had are the tiny ants but that just helped us find the tiniest holes. We went nuclear on those too. You too can in fact must leave without pests. That is just not normal

Also we did not allow any installation such as that of the kitchen or built ins on top of a substrate such as subfloor. It had to be fully floored and baseboards on top of tile or wood floor.
