What is wrong with High Point?

High Point is a dump.

Breeds racist little conservative garbage with zero brain cells.

At the beginning of this thread, several posters reference SN. An SN student.

Please decode the acronym for me? Curious what it means. Thanks.

I think it may mean "Special Needs", but not sure

Do you realize this type of attitude pushes moderates to the right?

High Point must have a huge marketing budget. My dd is on their list and we get a glossy multi page magazine that arrives in a protective plastic cover every other week.

My DC got a few of their glossy mailed brochures as well.

As a parent who is by all measures NOT wealthy, my daughter is doing well there. She is able to get many scholarships and the small loans she takes are worth every penny. Although many families there do have money HPU is like every other university in the sense that some kids will take college seriously and some won’t. The phrase C’s get degrees wasn’t invented at HPU. A quality education is absolutely available at this school. As with many other families once you have a child attend HPU the younger siblings will follow. My son will go to HPU as well with ROTC assistance. It’s a safe learning environment that I can feel good about my kids being involved in with so much opportunity at every turn. The restaurants, theater, ice rink, etc make it a wonderful experience and any young person, especially those going into business, would be lucky to attend. Is it perfect? Not for everyone but that’s no different than any other school, you have to find what works for you.
Additionally, the school has done amazing things for the surrounding area.

Their instagram and Tik Tok is fascinating to watch. The place is over the top. I can't look away.

That said, I know people who sent 2 kids there who swear by it.

It wasn't for us, though.

The whole “Cult of Personality” thing feels like a red flag to me. That larger-than-life thing often travels with massive hubris and god-complex type decisions.

Hopefully, I’m wrong. But based on pattern recognition, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if I’m right ….

The presidents son hazed a kid to death while a student at HPU and the president got him out of it.

In case anyone is unsure of the reference -

There are plenty of trolls on both sides who chime in with quick quips about "woke garbage" and "conservative garbage" with little thought. Who knows, it could really be the same trolls saying both types of things. They're just here to stir the pot.

It definitely means special needs, but after reading the articles about HP, especially the Forbes article, I cannot for the life of me understand why this place would be appealing to parents of special needs kids.

I've never heard this phrase before, so there's that...

But that aside....it sounds like this has been a great option to find an affordable education for your DCs - congrats. That's a big accomplishment and if HPU can offer that, take it and run. And honestly, it is the kid and what they bring to the table and what opportunities they take advantage of that can make all the difference.
