We had an rto mandate recently and i honestly told my boss, if you want me in the office every day in going to have to drop these projects to accommodate the commute time and she said yeah i know and well adjust. So time that i used to spend working i now spend commuting and do less overall and that is what the company wants for now.

So should firefighters subtract the journey time from the amount of time they spend fighting the actual fire? How about if on call surgeons or the police calculated their substantive work that way? This is ridiculous! Not everyone can work from home, it’s not a statutory right.

Pretty sure PP means they were working some overtime that will no longer be possible due to commuting rather than cutting their regular hours short. That's the most logical reading of it.

That makes zero sense working OT makes commute easier. You are not in rush hour

10 work hours + 0 commute = 10 hours.

8 hours + 2 hour commute (round trip) = 10 hours.

10 hours + 1.5 hour commute (to use your example) = 11.5 hours.

I think you're just trying to troll me but there's less time to get to daycare for either drop off or pickup.

I spend at most, 2-3 hours per day working and the rest of the time listening to podcasts, making lists, planning travel for the year ahead, texting friends, reading the news, etc.

My productivity is down 90%. I’m slow walking EVERYTHING.

I work 9-5, take a 75 min lunch, and at least another 1-2 walks for 20-30 minutes each.

Plus I randomly chit chat with my one work friend at least 5 times a day.

I’m surprised nothing has happened. Nothing.

I’m starting to realize that my management has no idea what I do and they also don’t care. So long as my butt is in the seat, they are happy.

I guess I just thought that by working hard and producing a lot of deliverables every day, that I was a good employee. I was wrong.

Is anyone else having the same experience?

Everyone is like this these days OP. I’m watching the construction at the house next door. The workers just sit on the ground listening to podcasts most days instead of working, and what should have taken 1 year to complete is now on year 3.

Sure, op. I totally believe you.

Yes, my in-office job was like that and not only did my bosses not penalize me, I got a big bonus and glowing review every year as well as concerns that I was hitting it too hard. For three years I wrote the PTA weekly newsletter from my work computer. When we moved to hybrid in late 2020, we were two days in one week and three days the next. I picked Monday, Thursday and every other Friday.

Monday - I was the only one there and knocked out all my big projects for the week.
Thursday - Water cooler chit chat day
Every other Friday - Get some work done and get out in time to pick kid up at school

I wasn't totally free and easy the rest of the time but realized I was essentially bored and underemployed. I took a FT remote job and am so busy and stressed. And I miss the chit chat.

Op here. Presumably, but I imagine there would first be a conversation or two about productivity and performance. Nothing at all has happened. In fact I just got high praise for joining some stupid party planning committee.

PP here - I also got praised for joining the "culture committee" to forge a new culture in the wake of COVID and some mergers.
