Visi Performing Arts Problematic

Right! Plenty of us appreciate OP’s honesty. And it is consistent with what I have seen myself.

I’m with previous poster. Doubt they were lied to. Just an unhappy family, that didn’t do their due diligence when selecting a school, trashing a school activity that their daughter and her friends participate in. Be the solution. Not part of the problem.

Visi has a historically weak Performing Arts program and this is broadly understood.

Visi primarily offers entry-level PA programming.

There are many other public and private schools that have significantly better PA programs.

It is foolish to rely on PA program quality representations of staff and management. The “buyer beware” rule applies.

Now my thoughts: A school like Visi with its plentiful resources, student talent and administrative depth could easily offer a better-managed and upgraded PA experience. Staff should avoid over stating program scope and quality. Perhaps coming out of COVID is a good time to assess what is being done and who is doing it.

All of this ^^ Someone please tell Visi!!🐯🐻‍❄️

Keep in mind Visi tuition is quite a bit lower than some of the schools with better performing arts programs--Visi probably just has a lower budget.

My mom was an elementary school theatre director and she could take any kid and turn them into one who could deliver a stellar performance. These are high school students - the bar should be higher. That is what people expect at Visi.

No, she’s awful. She could have delivered her critique of the adults without ripping into the kids (awful, painful, embarrassing). Her daughter’s schoolmates. It’s high school, not Broadway. Kids are there to have fun and learn and try something new and be themselves without fear that some godawful parent is sitting out there beyond the footlights judging them for it.

OP is awful and should be embarrassed for herself.

Agree.

Visi Performing Arts Director Leaving. Visi sent out a notice last week that their performing arts director is leaving the school. No reason was given. They have a long way to go to reverse the decline of their program, so I hope they make a good hire.

I heard from one of the parents who are part of the PTO at the new admits function that the school is intentionally and strategically revamping their theater program.

That's encouraging! What about the music program?

I didn't ask about that! Sorry. But it sounds like they were doing an arts overhaul. If you are newly admitted, I'm sure you can call and ask. If you are thinking for next year, you can ask about this on your tour.

This is awesome news. Any idea about dance? Website says a dance group exists but we couldn’t figure it out during our visits. DD was accepted and will attend. Not a deal breaker, but Invision dance team seemed cool and she’d love if it was active

I hate to see someone leave a job but I have a performing arts obsessed daughter. I hope this is good news for her - it was one of her concerns.

Word passing around seems to be (and I hope) that everybody and everything other than visual arts will be changed. To the parent asking about the "Invision" dance program, the departing employee was in charge of it. As an activity it received low marks from participants and parents, as did most of the music/performing program. The possibility of change is really good news, but Visi needs to make significant change to reverse things. I am consistently impressed with the quality and follow-through of Visi teachers and employees. Sorry to say, but this does not extend to the performing arts people. We will know if Visi is serious when they announce a serious replacement leader. If they mess this up they will make a well-understood problem much worse. My graduating daughter and her friends figured the problem out early-on and just stayed away. Wish this change had happened earlier.

You asked at 1 am and it’s just after 9 now. Give people time to get coffee, turn on their computers, and figure out which task they want to avoid first, sheesh.

Current parent and have not seen an announcement. Not part of the performing arts program so wouldn't be privy to any chatter.
