Private coaches for the elite kids

Did the Williams Sisters become Elite tennis players by practicing 5 hours a month?
David Beckham's father trained him for hours each week to become Elite.

The original question was about paying for private coaching to the tune of thousands of dollars and to the exclusion of all other sports.

I admit I don’t know anything about the Williams or Beckhams training, other than being trained by their own dads. I also know that even among elite athletes they’re pretty much the cream of the crop who clearly have a lot of national talent and physicality that no amount of money can buy.

But I also don’t know where you’re pulling 5 hours a month of practice? There is a HUGE middle ground.

Elite is not middle ground

Mediocre is middle ground

You better present the data that shows the results of athletic testing when the kids were young before they chose their sport.

You also need to explain why you only pick wide receivers and corner backs.
All soccer players are athletic and agile. Not just 2 positions.

How are the Charles Barkley, Shaq etc more athletic than any member of any MLS team?

Soccer players aren't training for years to wear pads and run into each other.

The PP put out some sensible data using speed only. You can define athletic however you want and then distort a point of view.

The inescapable fact is that USA does not win World Cup or place large professionals in soccers top leagues. Why is that? the USA has its best athletes in soccer yet they lose solely because of a lack of technical skill and tactics?

Tyreek Hill is a better athlete than any USMNT player. Period. Make of it what you will.

I'll make of you comment that there are levels to soccer knowledge and you're on the lower rungs.

The One Thing all international commentators and analysts agree on about US Soccer National Team is that Athleticism and Physicality is High.
But of course, that's not the holy grail for soccer success at the top levels.

What makes Tyreek Hill a better athlete than Mbappe?
He is a better American Football player.

Can Tyreek Hill score an Overhead Bicycle Kick from a ball crossed behind him?

Your comment:
A. Denigrate the other poster intelligence and knowledge
B. Note that US soccer is “high” at athleticism
C. Note that Tyreek Hill and Kylian Mbappe are comparable in athleticism
D. Ask if Tyreek can match Garnacho’s kick

My reply:
A. Pass
B. High yes elite no. Name the top US athlete in soccer and they are not in the top 50 in world
C. Yes. Unfortunately Tyreek is an American and Kylian is not. That’s the point so thanks for reinforcing it.
D. I very much doubt Tyreek could apply his athleticism in a game to technical skill he has never learned. Much as I doubt Kylian could catch a ball knowing he will be hit and being hit. Again this is not the point. The point is the beat US athletes are not drawn to soccer like the rest of the world is to it.

Christian McCaffrey is an Olympic speed guy and descended from same but he wants to play football not soccer. Mccaffrey has better athleticism than Pulisic etc. simply true.

Name the country/countries considered to be more athletic than America in International soccer?

Swap Mbappe's name for Adams, Pulisic, Aarononson

So you're proving how silly it is to claim the attributes a wide receiver trains to enhance makes him more naturally athletic than another athlete who doesn't train for said attributes.

Being better at Long Jump doesn't make you more athletic than a High Jumper because you can jump further horizontally.

You are making it easier and easier:

“Name the country/countries considered to be more athletic than America in International soccer?”
Just about all of them have their top athletes in soccer and those are better than USA lower tier athleticism. November 20: USMNT 1-2 T&T

“Swap Mbappe's name for Adams, Pulisic, Aarononson”

I don’t think anyone in their right mind would trade Mbappe for Adam’s Pulisic or Aronson. That’s the point. Mbappe is more athletic than them. Mbappe speed is comparable to elite American NFL players which exceed US top soccer players.

You’ve lost the argument train here. Long jumpers such as Jesse Owes Carl Lewis etc over the years are considered more athletic than high jumpers. So the point is not well made. Maybe triple jump would work better.

Just because Usain Bolt is fast does not make him more athletic than an Olympic race walker. They train for different things. Both are t he greatest.

Fine. We accept.

Top speeds:
Kylian Mbappe 37.9 km/h
Pulisic 31.1 km/h
Tyler Adams 30.4km/h
B Aaronson 27.45 km/h

Sergio Dest is top American at 33.9 km/h
Which doesn’t even put him in the top 150 soccer players in world.

There are over 100 NFL players who would be in top 20 or higher speed comparable to the top world soccer players.
NFL is speed and power. Soccer is speed and endurance. Bothe then are about intelligence and application of skill to a dynamic problem solving environment with opposition.
Both are great sports to watch.

It’s like blondes and brunettes both are beautiful and to be appreciated. But when it comes down to it blondes have more fun. And US nfl players are gonna be faster than us soccer players with exception of Sergino Dest.

In Russia they used to do that but the athletes did not get a choice of sport.

Would we have to eliminate the 10 international players from the DC United roster?

Also not sure pitting these 2 losing teams against each would be good: they might both lose!!!!!!

Where's the part that proves the more naturally athletic kids choose other sports over soccer?

We aren't even going to get into the fact that athleticism has never been named by any true soccer expert, dead or alive, as a handicap or liability for American soccer.
