They live on the Hill, but are trolling a thread about Bancroft because of a decade-plus grudge that they were eliminated from the Deal feeder pyramid?

They never fed to Deal, just Wilson. Just like Crestwood, the change to have elementary schools feed to a pyramid changed it.

half the city feed to wilson not that long ago. white and black flight gutted many DC schools

Here is an old DCPS HS map: http://morganeseducationblog.weebly.com/uploads/4/2/1/8/42181999/6685155_orig.jpg

I can’t tell because it’s cut off…did Shepherd used to feed to Coolidge?

Someone on these threads keeps pushing for Bancroft to feed to MacFarland, I think because they live in that middle school zone and want more white, high-income kids to join their kid.

MacFarland already has 7 elementary schools feeding into it. Bancroft has had MacFarland as an added option for years, and nobody is choosing it. It isn't convenient or desirable for those families -- neither the native Spanish or native English ones. It just doesn't make sense.

The Mt P issue in rezoning was largely to solve for Bancroft overcrowding. But the Deal feeder right doesn't appear to be changing.

Why not just CHEC? Clear feeder pattern and very close. It isn’t a full immersion school. It is Tubman’s only feed, so it works for non-immersion kids.

The middle school is dual language, and that is the only option. The Tubman and HD Cooke students often have a much more difficult experience than those coming from Marie Reed or Bancroft because they have to take content classes in Spanish with no foundation in the language.

So English-only elementary schools feed a bilingual middle school and a bilingual elementary school feeds an English-only middle school? And there are no English-only alternatives for Tubman and Cooke? That is messed up right there.

More UMC kids just means more competition for Latin!

Once the Connecticut Ave bike lanes are finished it is going to make east-west travel across CT Ave challenging during the rush hours so a lot of families may actually prefer the logistics of Adams or other options.

But I believe those parents can opt out for their assigned MS for a traditional one much like you can do if your IB is dual-language.

That is not correct. CHEC is the only MS feeder for Tubman and Cooke.

Oh it’s you again. Seriously, the bike lanes are not the problem that you hope they will be.

I’m not the prior guy but I think Bancroft feeding to MacFarland has logic on its side and demographics against it. If that’s how you want this to shake out, fine. But the logic is pretty strong for geography and programming.

Compared to CHEC or Deal?

That is some classic DC thinking. Forcing kids to a bilingual MS but not providing access to a bilingual elementary, what could go wrong?

Could someone please tell me when the changes are likely to be made? Can we expect anything to happen before this coming school year in the fall? Is this several years down the line?

Not me. The DC police said just last week that these lanes will increase congestion on Connecticut Ave and an elevated level of collisions.
