MCPS have SRO’s idiot and they didn’t do anything to prevent the gun.

They have CRO's and security but they need way more. And, they need metal and other detectors.

CROs are SROs by another name. And once again no … security and SROs don’t fix this

This is a great example where SROs would have been crucial. The student reported the incident to security instead of SRO since there aren't any. A police officer could have intervened immediately whereas security had to ask the guy to self frisk. Ridiculous. Wate of precious minutes in an emergency.

But in actuality, a SRO was NOT crucial.

The more security the better. It would have helped as it could have been dealt with more quickly. The lack of discipline, lack of parental involvement, lack of structure and rules and expectations are why kids are struggling so much and why we are having more, not less incidents.

I agree with PPs who are calling out the snobby W parents on here.

If you aren't a snobby W parent, you have no reason to get huffy. If you are, you should take a step back and reconsider your snobbery. This gun BS is everywhere now. How about you focus on helping with that instead of sitting back and criticizing other schools all the time.

Here’s the thing. I’m a “w parent”. I’m not snobby, I work very very hard to send my kids to WJ but I recognize that I’m fortunate to do so. I’m huffy because our kids were in danger today and there are a bunch of a$$hole$ on here making this a w school vs other schools thing.

DP but W parents do that all the times.
Had that been a non-W school, W parents would be here calling the school all kind of names, ganglandia, crime-infested etc...
So cry me a river.

This is very obviously false.

What's true? There was a student with a gun, and the situation was dealt with effectively without a SRO.

It's ok, PP. You should have seen the things that were posted on DCUM after the Clarksburg HS student had a gun after Parkland.

So boring. Between the w haters and the sarcastic Uber progressive "we don't need extra security " bore its barely worth reading anymore

My son graduated from WJ last year.

For me the advantage of a so-called W school are the academics. You can look at all the MCPS high school websites to look at number of AP courses and WJ, WW and a couple of others offer the most. The teachers are great. This is what my property tax is paying for.

It was always my understanding that safety is a concern everywhere. My own private school, back in the day, had safety concerns of that nature.

So I think some "gotcha", jealous posters are misguided. Not to mention, it's in very poor taste to add their schadenfreude to this thread. I hope none of you would have gloated had there been actual injuries or deaths? The rate you're going, I wouldn't put it past some of you...

This is terrifying. You’ll notice in the letter that it wasn’t necessarily a student who reported it. They say individual, so it could have been a staff member. Whomever it is is a true hero!
