Is Quinn a male or female name to you?

Anonymous
Either one. It's one of the few names I can think of that's truly unisex for me, along with a handful of others like Alex, Alexis, River, and Jordan.

Agree. And the optics are terrible. It makes it look like you really wanted a boy so badly that you named your girl with a boy's name. It's like you didn't really want a girl.

I always feel so bad for these little girls named with boy names.

My female assumption probably comes from the primary association the name has for me - Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Yes, that's the last name obviously, but Quinn = woman in my mind.

LOL same! I had to google what her first name was, I knew that was her last name but it's been so long I couldn't remember anything besides Quinn

That's probably where I get the assumption too. When I first heard it I thought female but the one Quinn I know in person is a boy. So now I would not assume either way. As a PP said, it's in the same group as "Alex" -- I work with multiple Alexes, about half men, half women.

I know a couple of Quinn girls and never knew it was used for boys too. Maybe it's like Ashley.

That's fine.

Same bunch every time in these threads getting their curlers rattled.

Unisex

But you gotta be a confident boyish hot girl to rock it

If you aren’t the best looking and dorky/clumsy - don’t go for it

Suitably gender neutral/ fluid as many of our young people are …

Female. I don’t know any in real life, just associate the name with Quinn Fabray from Glee.

If American, girl. If British, boy.

I agree with your sentiment. However, you have it backwards. Quinn is FAR more associated with females

Quinn- consistently top 100 name for babu girls: https://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/babyname.cgi

Quinn- deep into the 400s for baby boys: https://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/babyname.cgi

I am also becoming a gender reactionary, but you have to base it on how most people see the name. Most people see it as a girl name, based on these official stats.

WTF Quynh/Quinn is a very common Vietnamese name

Qin was the first Chinese emperor, who united the country, built the Great Wall, etc

But then you should also know Qin is pronpunced "Cheen" so it's not at all like Quynh/Quinn, which should the same

And Taco Bell is not real Mexican food.

It wouldn't be the first time parents used an ethnic name and Americanized for ease.

I was going to name my female dog Quinn. I also have a distant male cousin named Quinn.

I do generally think male, though.

You are missing the point. Quynh/Quinn is a legit Asian name.
