+1 - the best.

Does Somerset include Brookdale? They seem to share the same zipcode.

No they are two distinct neighborhoods. Both awesome.

+1 Brookdale, Somerset, Westmoreland Hills, Westbrook. All have this but some variation street by street just depending on the specific families/ages.

Not all have sidewalks but much of Somerset does.

Adding to this list Chevy Chase West which is just North of.and adjacent to Somerset. Also has lots of sidewalk and is along the largest park in the area (Norwood)

Middle school is really the tough nut to crack in DC if you want to go public school all the way through. Deal is not perfect but no middle school is.

I would look in Palisades too unless you need/want metro.

People in AU park are notoriously horrible and not what many would call "supportive". Palisades you may have better luck but I'd lower your expectations OP. Those areas take time to meet people of quality and not many are very "nice".

“People of quality”? I want to move to AU Park just to avoid you.

We recently moved from downtown to North Cleveland Park and are enjoying it. Our in-boundary elementary is Hearst, and the park there is busy all the time and teeming with younger kids. We see middle schoolers walking alone as well as in groups to Deal. The Wakefield/Forest Hills/North Cleveland Park area may work for you as the playgrounds, parks, and/or elementary schools in the area are good and help connect people together. There are also a fair number of second generation owners and/or empty nesters who raised their children here. Housing stock varies and you have access to the red line, if that is important. In NWDC Chevy Chase DC is also lovely. We decided against it because of commute times and lack of train access, both of which we felt were important to us. Good luck!

DP but PP is spot on about the general character flaws of the people of AU Park. I am sure there are exceptions but not a stellar group from my experience (which was NW LL, I don’t live there and thank goodness).

No, different neighborhoods. Somerset is 20815 and much of chevy chase is that too. It’s not a unique zip code to Somerset. Somerset is only around 435 houses. Cumberland on one side-off Wisconsin-down to Little falls Road and River Road. It’s an amazing neighborhood.

I’m in Petworth and it feels like a community if I don’t feel safe here anymore and I’ve been eying Bethesda although it’s out of our budget. DC has so many amazing neighborhoods and amenities but crime is getting out of hand.

Look at demographics and crime. That’s why it’s affordable.

I live near Manor Park. It's a wonderful neighborhood. Crawl back into your hole - troll.
