I have nothing to add as i am not a "fellow Asian" but I want to share who pleasantly surprised that the majority, if not most of the respondents are actually Asian (I assume). This has been instructive for me, a non-Asian, Black parent, who is used to everyone butting in when a fellow Black parent asks for opinion of fellow Black parents on here.

Carry on!

I have one super smart high stat kid and an average smart kid. My average smart kid likes UMich, USC, NYU, BU, BC, Northeastern, Penn State and Rutgers. I’m really afraid he won’t even get into BU.

You are either an idiot (most already assume that ) or a VT troller and i won't even touch upon the absurdity of the criticisms because if yo were smart you would know that Jim Ryan is working to send students from poor counties to UVA and UVA Wise. Want to know more? post back and I will respond (and yes I went to Harvard. And yes I sent a student to UVA and another to GMU so please ask me questions before you post ignorant again.

But i suspect you are a rival VT student and this is a slow Friday night in the dorms.

My kid is looking at less Asian schools that have a more favorable admissions climate.

Yes, our kid is smart and hardworking, but compared to his Asian peers would probably be considered academically average. Mostly looking at state schools, and we definitely aren’t trying to fill his head with delusions of Harvard or Duke to make him feel that he isn’t doing enough.

+1 even with their scandal Columbia is still a hot commodity. It should be back in the US News T10 soon.

Columbia is #5 with more reputable Forbes (?) and WSJ(?)

Yes there is a list of top schools that many Asian parents want to send their kids to.

But not all Asian kids are super smart. For those kids, I noticed that Asian parents prefer big in-state public schools (for Virginia, UVa, VT, GMU, VCU, etc) over smaller public schools (such as MWC and CNU).

You will have a hard time finding Asian kids at less known private schools like Roanoke college or Randolph Macon.

Funny, in California where Asians make up a large population, many community colleges hover around 50% Asians. There are gifted Asians, for sure, since there are gifted people in any group of people. Most Asians, however, are average. And there are downright stupid ones simply because there's stupid people in any group of people.

In many cases, it's the parents more than the kids

It's a solid T20 or even T10 school.
It's better than half of ivies.

Duke is a solid south Carolina university. Its the best university in s. Carolina. But then, we are talking about s. Carolina, so...

Don’t feed the troll, lots of haters towards certain schools on DCUM and Duke is one of them.
