Well I am not sure if they asked DD that question, but she applied to 4 Catholic all girls high schools (VISI, HC, AHC, SR) and got into all four. One interviewer asked her if their particular school was her first choice, and she answered honestly saying "no." She still was admitted. |
Oh my. |
Our experience is a few years old at this point, but we found that all the schools asked where else you were applying — some of them as part of the online application process, some in the interview, or both. No need to lie or hedge, although you can certainly mention one or two without giving an exhaustive list. It typically is truly just info gathering for the schools. They know who their “competition” is historically and like to track that. If/when you turn down an acceptance, they will ask you where you are enrolling instead. Same reason. |
| VISI doesn't seem to be doing very well in college matriculations this year. Not sure what is going on. They have always been just a bit stronger than SR. On Instagram right now with about a third of their class posting so far, only 10% of the are heading T20 USNWR schools. Typically they end up around at least 20%. SR is currently at 14% with some athletic recruits going to Yale and Princeton and other non-recruits to Michigan and Notre Dame. I heard at VISI a lot of girls got shut out of Vandy this year...apparently big surprise/disappointment in college admissions there. |
This is simply not true. |
10%/14% of what? Instagram posts? It's February 23 FFS. |
Everyone was shut out of Vanderbilt this year. Not sure about Visi, but it’s common knowledge among people following this years cycle that things were different with Vandy this year . |
What part isn't true? |
Yes, of the current posts. It would be much lower if we used the entire class as the denominator. |
Honey, could you give me a few minutes? I'm working on something important. First, I need to get the current list of T20 colleges and universities. Then, I'll cross-reference that with the latest unofficial Instagram posts from VISI and SR seniors. After that, I have to do some simple calculations, make a post on DCUM, and be available to answer any inquiries. This might take a while—can we reschedule for next week? |
A lot of Visi girls have not posted yet. |
| I think at the end of the day, Visi has more of a “nose in the air” feel, which is helped by location and the number of V.I.P. kids who attend. SR seems more down to earth. Decide which type of girl your child is and go there. |
Duh 🙄 You need to work on reading comprehension. |
As a VISI parent I do not get that sense at all. Very nice people. Even the VIPs are nice. |
I really hope parents are not choosing between Visi and SR based on misleading/irrelevant statistics about college matriculation. Let’s look at the same data more carefully: Out of the 40 Visi girls who have posted, 1 is going to Cornell, 1 to Dartmouth, 1 to Northwestern and 1 to Columbia; the Dartmouth and Cornell admits are athletic recruits. Out of the 34 SR girls who have posted, 1 is going to Princeton, 1 to Yale, 2 to Michigan, and 1 to Notre Dame; the Princeton and Yale admits are athletic recruits. Taking out the athletic recruits, one is left with 1 Cornell and 1 Columbia versus 2 Michigan and 1 Notre Dame. Hardly a meaningful difference! |
