I do! It’s from this mainly.

She’s just perfect for the current zeitgeist for some reason. It’s the perfect storm of Anna faris being likeable, Chris Pratt seeming like a twit and her having this hard to pin down ickiness. There’s something so gross about them and it’s hard to figure out what it is.

It's not them. It's you. It's called jealousy.

DP. I know you have an agenda, but I agree with PP. it’s not jealousy. It’s that she is self-important when really she has had everything handed to her on a silver platter. She writes about “topics she’s passionate about.” That could be a self help book about faith or a children’s book about sisterhood. Why is she an authority on any of those topics? Because she is a well connected child of two famous people, and has a publicist. The NYT profile on her only demonstrated what a joke she is. Anyone in her position with any humility or self-awareness wouldn’t embarrass themselves on that kind of platform. She’s like the Ivanka trump of undeclared politics. Wealthy and photoshopped, but devoid of substance.

This. Nailed it.

They epitomize PR, connections, and wanting attention. They are both uninteresting. Stop promoting yourselves!. I find him more annoying than her, though. He seems really dumb: low IQ, low EQ.

I agree with these comments and don't think it's jealousy -- there are plenty of celebrity or wealthy couples I unabashedly enjoy because they are so much wealthier, more beautiful, and more talented than I am. This one bugs.

That said, I'm the opposite. I find her much more annoying than him. It's the nepotism of it all. The level of self-seriousness she has when talking about her "achievements" is really vicariously embarrassing to me. I appreciate it when these kids of the rich and famous have a sense of humor and self-awareness about it all (and there are lots of examples of that). Meanwhile, Katherine genuinely seems to think that she got these book deals due to the inherent brilliance of her writing and ideas. It's comical.

I also find it especially obnoxious because I am aware that in prior generations, Kennedy/Shriver kids were raised to be much more self-aware about their wealth and privilege. But here's Katherine all "I don't know, I guess people just really love what I have to say!"

Pratt is annoying but I do think he had/has some comedy and acting chops and that he largely earned his success and money. I don't really like him but I think if he was single or married to someone else, I wouldn't take notice one way or the other. Most actors strike me as self-centered and shallow, it feels rare when they aren't. Sometimes their self-centered shallowness is even amusing to me, like with Amanda Seyfried. I find her charming even though I think she's a bit of a narcissistic space cadet.

I think it is the performative Christian thing that has something to do with the reaction. It seems both smug and insincere.

Maybe they are very nice in person. They just don't come across that way?

Nice try. You tease out how God-LESS you are with such a wicked statement like that about a Christian mother you don’t even know.

DP. How on earth would you really know she is a Christian? Because she decided to start going to an evangelical church when she wanted to date a movie star?

Visiting another Christian church isn’t the smoking gun you think it is. And it’s super weird that you and perhaps others have fixated on this for literally years? I believe their family and kids are baptized Catholics.

Dp, but feels obvious to point out that you are the only one constantly raising that she’s Christian. Nobody else cares!

I’m wondering if he will try to run for Governor of California in 2026.

I mean do you even know enough about Christianity to know the theological differences between Catholicism and evangelical Protestantism? It’s a bit more than deciding to visit a church you hear a famous person is going to at 30.

They can buy a property, renovate it with a "name" designer, get it featured in AD or another outlet, and then sell it for a large profit. People like this also tend to own multiple homes and travel a lot, so I think they are less attached to specific houses than your average person. Real estate is considered a really sound investment for actors because it offers good return on investment for people at their level of wealth -- rich, but not obscenely so, with inconsistent income.

Should note here that Pratt paid 15.6m for it only 5 years ago, and now they are selling it for double that. Even with the extensive top-down renovation, they will likely net 7-10 million on it, a huge return on investment. You can't get that from the stock market.

Totally. But I can’t wrap my head around not getting attached to a beautiful custom home I not only built, but brought my children home to. Why not have a primary residence and buy/sell secondary properties? Are celebrities really so fickle that they want to build a new house every three years like leasing a car?

I get what you mean, I’ve wondered the exact same thing. Normal people would keep the house forever!

Have you ever renovated a house top to bottom, or built a custom home from scratch? My parents have done it multiple times and each time they are satisfied for a bit and then they want another project. My mom always talks about how when she's making choices on one house, there are things she has to say no to, and then they haunt her later. Like she'll design the kitchen and it will be great, but she'll still have this inspiration photo of a totally different style of kitchen tucked away somewhere, and she'll dream about designing a kitchen around that idea, too.

Basically it becomes a hobby and the joy is in the design and execution, less than living in it. Not for everyone, but I think for a lot of people who get into home design and renovation, this is the case.

I would like to know more about your parents and their lifestyle in a completely aspirational way. We are nearing the end of an 18 month long renovation and despite some mistakes and grumbling from the kids, DH and I are basically like “We all must love everything about it until we move or die. The End.”

Ha! PP here and your way is healthier, I think. I've watched my mom give house tours to friends and family of both newly renovated homes and new builds that seriously looked straight out of a magazine, while saying stuff like "I know it looks weird to have the island situated this way, it's not how I'd do it again if I had the choice, but you have to make so many compromises with this stuff." And I can tell people are rolling their eyes on the inside because these are not janky, half-assed renovations -- their houses always look gorgeous. She's just unbelievably picky and never satisfied.

They are in the process of house hunting again and claim they aren't going to renovate this one (they are in their mid- to late 70s) and want something that already suits their needs. But then I listen to them nitpick everything about every house they look at, and I'm quite certain they will be remodeling whatever they buy within 6 months.

Sounds like untreated mental illness…

I will never not think of him as Andy on Parks and Rec.

I love a good MCM but that house is totally uninspiring.

This is so true. She lacks the ability to be a real person in front of the camera. Lately she has come up in my feed on Instagram doing like make up tutorials and she’s trying to, you know keep it real, like throwing things like oh I totally burned my finger on the toaster oven. And I’m like, OK? Hashtag so relatable? It’s falling completely flat. It seems like she is observing real people and trying to mimic what they do to seem like a real human. It is bizarre.

She might have better luck if she went the Kristin Cavallari route. Kristen does not try to be relatable in any way. I mean, I get that she has a podcast called Let’s be honest, but I have listened to a couple of episodes and one was about how she was out with her kids and some man came up to her and told her how hot she was. She is not trying to really be vulnerable or relatable and that works for her. Catherine should just give into that or give it up.

This statement alone makes it vividly clear you’re not a Christian.
