Listed their house for 32 million. They spent three years renovating it and have only lived in it for 2 years. Why do celebrities do this?

DeuxMoi blind item tentatively claims they’re splitting up.

My guess is they seem more likely to be moving out of LA to some redder area where Chris can run for office.

Because the spouse is idle and bored and lonely...and also, the breadwinner also has a lot of down time. Building/remodeling is a hobby to fill the day. Once it's over they get bored and move on to a new project to fill their boredom.

They're buying and selling investment properties. It's very lucrative in LA. You don't have to hold on to it long or do too much to it to make a tidy profit. Or you can gut it and go all out.

They can buy a property, renovate it with a "name" designer, get it featured in AD or another outlet, and then sell it for a large profit. People like this also tend to own multiple homes and travel a lot, so I think they are less attached to specific houses than your average person. Real estate is considered a really sound investment for actors because it offers good return on investment for people at their level of wealth -- rich, but not obscenely so, with inconsistent income.

Should note here that Pratt paid 15.6m for it only 5 years ago, and now they are selling it for double that. Even with the extensive top-down renovation, they will likely net 7-10 million on it, a huge return on investment. You can't get that from the stock market.

Totally. But I can’t wrap my head around not getting attached to a beautiful custom home I not only built, but brought my children home to. Why not have a primary residence and buy/sell secondary properties? Are celebrities really so fickle that they want to build a new house every three years like leasing a car?

I get what you mean, I’ve wondered the exact same thing. Normal people would keep the house forever!

I also find this unethical, lying about when it was built. Probably illegal:
Pratt purchased the hillside home, originally built in 1995, in June of 2018 for $15,601,500. The couple rebuilt it from the ground up, remodeling it so extensively that the listing states it was built in 2021.

Why is that a lie or unethical? If it was taken down to the studs with all new electrical, plumbing, drywall, and was a total gut, then it's a house build in 2021. What's left of the original structure?

Her Dad made a lot of money in real estate. He invested heavily in apartment buildings and office buildings before he became a movie star.

(See his second of three videos about his life.)

I'm sure he talked with her about the value of real estate investments.

These two will never, ever divorce.

The odds aren’t in their favor, but that said, I think her mother would have looked the other way in her marriage if Arnold hadn’t humiliated her by having a secret kid and lying about it. All to say, I think Katherine would sooner put up with a lot before getting divorced.

Chris Pratt is very mindful of his image. It took a beating when he divorced Anna Farris. There's no way he would want to be seen abandoning a second wife and young children.

No divorce, just a profit making move.
Also who wants to live in the same house "forever" - oh yeah, boring people in the DMV.

I really don’t like them. I ate up that mean NYTimes story with a spoon.

But I don’t get this discussion about the house thing. Maybe they found another one. Maybe they didn’t like it. Maybe it was always an investment. Maybe they just want to live somewhere else.

I don’t see how this is a big deal. People move. This isn’t their only house.

Have you ever renovated a house top to bottom, or built a custom home from scratch? My parents have done it multiple times and each time they are satisfied for a bit and then they want another project. My mom always talks about how when she's making choices on one house, there are things she has to say no to, and then they haunt her later. Like she'll design the kitchen and it will be great, but she'll still have this inspiration photo of a totally different style of kitchen tucked away somewhere, and she'll dream about designing a kitchen around that idea, too.

Basically it becomes a hobby and the joy is in the design and execution, less than living in it. Not for everyone, but I think for a lot of people who get into home design and renovation, this is the case.

I don't get attached to things and could easily do this.

Me too. I am attached to the people in the house with me, not the bricks and mortar.

Doesn’t filming there suggest they didn’t intend to stay? I wouldn’t want a reality show in my actual house. But if you have an investment house and want to do the reality show it’s perfect, right? I don’t know who owns the bins at the end but it’s not like you can’t move bins. Or include them as Famous Bins.

If I were rich I'd probably move and remodel constantly.

I'm guessing they want to move before that cliff turns into a mudslide that buries their house.
