Bikes lanes poorly designed - unsafe for drivers and bikers

Why do "we" really need to do this?

We really need speed limiters put on cars/trucks/suv's that are geotagged and make it so that its not possible to break the speed limit.

I suppose we can both dream. Even though that tech actually exists and is a requirement starting about this time next year in the entire European Union.

The Washington Post had a story the other day on how the city spent $4 million to build an entire building at union station for cyclists to lock their bikes (a pole wouldn’t suffice?). Now that absurd building has been padlocked because no one uses it.

Good thing DC doesn’t have any poor people and we can afford to blow $4 million on such silly ideas

Maybe recognize that some people have disabilities and health issues that prevent them from riding bikes

This. Several elderly people used the spots in front of Wagshals to park so they could walk in 10 feet to pick up food. Now they have nowhere to park and have to walk blocks. For elderly that is a big deal.

Biking is awesome and great in places like Rock Creek park. Biking doesn't help with things like school drop offs and pick ups, and buying and transportin groceries for an entire family. It's also pretty crummy during inclement weather.

No one with a high level job or kids is biking to work. Bike lanes do nothing for traffic

If only there were a parking garage with 276 spaces next to Wagshals.

I have kids and I bike to work. Not exclusively — I also often take Metro — but it’s a great way to multitask for busy parents — if there’s no time for a workout, why not get one on your way to and from the office?

Driving on New Mexico this weekend, you'd need to be a very bad driver to hit those pedestrian islands. Understandably, some people used to the road before the islands were built could have some trouble, but that should erode with time.

Have no opinion on the bike lanes. There was ample street parking everywhere I looked.

The idea is that if more people bike, there will be more car space for the people who have to drive and park.

I don’t like to bike. I prefer other exercise. I dress up most places I go so biking to a black tie event would not be ideal!

Then you should encourage other people to bike most places they go.

People do bike to black tie events. People also take transit to black tie events. That doesn't mean you have to. It does mean it's possible to do so.

Most people would Uber to a black tie event.

I have level job and kids and bike to work. I know many senior colleagues who do the same. You are a presumptuous twerp.

There's literally a massive parking garage under Wagshal's on New Mexico. People are just too cheap/lazy to park in the garage.
