Yep. There are a few cranks in Arlington who get whipped up by culture war claptrap - a few skulk around DCUM and ARLnow - but by and large, a highly educated populace is kryptonite for Republican electoral success.

Yes, all of you UMC conformist dorks went to the same schools and work at the same jobs and live in the same houses and drive the same cars. That’s not a selling point. You are weak, soft, white bread dweebs performing a charade with one another.

None of you have Black or Mexican friends, stupidass condescending sign in your front yard notwithstanding. You can’t fix a toilet. You can’t drive a stick. But yes you can amble around the Westover farmers market in flip flops smelling cucumbers with the best of them. Kudos.

If you think the Democratic Party in the US in 2023 is on some higher plane of enlightenment, I don’t know what to tell you. If you think the annual rubber stamping of the stunningly inept county Ds is good for the residents of Arlington, you are objectively a moron.

And FTR, and not that it matters, I’m not a Republican.

I started driving a stick and fixing toilets (and wiring, plumbing, tiling, changing my oil, etc) back when you were still crapping your pants.

What happened to dems being the party of tolerance? I thought that was the plan?

Notice how that's the response. No platform other than trolling

That's all they can do. Troll. Even their leading candidate for 2024 loves trolling.

I think a better platform would be for starters;

1) secure our border to stop illegal immigration A):exploiting our social services, schools, etc. paid by tax paying citizens, b) stop drug smuggling especially fentanyl , and c):stop huge increases in human smuggling/ child exploitation.
2) support prosecutors who will actually prosecute criminals. Stop making "equity" excuses for criminals that victimize all, especially &:disproportionately black citizens.
3) Return to more sensible energy policies that make our economy work and grow.
4) Return to more moderate national candidates/ elections where Trump or Biden are not candidates. Everyone be honest and admit both candidates are corrupt and terrible. No Hillary or Desantis either.
5) reasonable gun control with better background checks and wait periods.
6) Legal abortion with restrictions on late term abortions except for rape, children (rape), and rare partial birth abortions.
7) No pandering programs like student loan forgiveness, BUT allow refinancing of those loans.

That's for starters. Maybe not possible for either DNC or RNC to compromise.
If your a hack of either side, don't bother with a response, but look at the national polls.
I'm nowhere near alone with my views.

Imagine thinking Biden isn't a moderate, god you're a moron. The rest of this list screams "I'm a centrist who likes to crap on both sides, look at my big brain for not choosing a side"

I have more than you ever will

Sure thing, Josh.

You’re 40 years old now. Time to stop calling the Black guy who was forced to room with you freshman year at NYU your friend.

You first, Brad.

My best friend is a black man who I've known for a very long time. I'm ride or die with him and vice versa. You're delusional.

Jesus. “My best friend is black” + a cringe-inducing, utterly forced “ride or die”. I’m embarrassed to even read that. Can’t imagine how I’d feel if I wrote it.

You and the guy who thinks “LOLbertarian” is funny deserve each other.

And yes, they’re all laughing at your tan Dockers. Your wife dreads Tuesday sex night. Your kids know you’re just a bag of mayonnaise and will never respect you.

Yeah, clearly the Rs in Arlington are beneath those that vote D. Probably time to list and label.

Anonymous wrote:I'm an Arlington Dem that votes Dem mostly for social issues such as women's rights and gay rights and considers myself pretty centrist. The Republicans have become so bonkers it's hard for them to pick up educated voters. I don't think that was always true or has to be true forever.

John Vihstadt was elected here and he ran as an independent but was really an old-school republican. He did a good job too. He lost in a high turnout year when voters just showed up and voted party line without knowing anything about local elections.

Local government works best when it's not one-party rule.

What we know is true - every Arlington extra smart Dem believed this list was NOT true and perhaps still does:

Dossier was fake.
Laptop was real
FISA was falsified which led to other FISAs
Being vaccinated for Covid stopped transmission
The Covid vaccine protected you from getting Covid
Trump said Nazis were fine people

There’s but a few. Keep on thinking you are better than others, Arlington leftists!

Unlike lovely, open-minded Democrats such as yourself?

Democrats actually work to improve, they don't just obstruct and take away rights.

Oh, and they don't try to usurp election results or overthrow the government.

Naive as heck there. Getting rid of cash and having a universal world passport and banking card will track everything you do. Want that steak? Nope, you are over allotment for the month. Need cash from your account? Nope, you said something we consider insulting on X.

And people are wondering why Republicans aren't popular in Arlington. Well, here's your answer: they're entirely divorced from reality. They don't live in the same world as the rest of us.

I think the pandemic really broke some people with underlying mental health issues.

I am a democrat for national and state elections but I do wish the Arlington local elections were more competitive with some Republicans on the county board and school board. I mainly care about schools and the Dems have not been great on schools - they left schools closed for too long during COVID, have not been doing much to help kids catch up and I have not been impressed with their efforts on equity. They seem more focused on issues related to trans kids than making sure all kids can read and write (and I say this as someone who supports trans kids but I think learning matters too). Getting rid of homework in middle school doesn't help poor kids, it just gives an advantage to children of parents who supplement.

I’m an Arlington liberal but find this viewpoint extremely elitist. Highly educated or extremely privileged? I think they usually go hand in hand and I’d rather go back to being the party of the working class. I think the Democratic Party does more for working people which is why I usually vote blue. However, the elitist TPs are a huge turnoff and the party is out of touch with most Americans (see school closures and other vax mandates). And, yes, my whole family is vaccinated but I was so turned off by the vilifying by the left.

Is it elitist to point out a very strong correlation between political affiliation and education?

This line always cracks me up. It's repeated ad nauseum and taken as dogma at this point, but let's take a step back. Yes, there are terminally online leftist scolds who seem to relish in taking outlandish positions on things (although the same can be said of the right, and they're perhaps much worse!).

Is it the Democratic Party that is out of touch with most Americans?

Or is it the party that agitates for tax cuts for the rich, dismantling incredibly popular government programs (ACA, Medicaid, SS, etc), and rolling back gay rights (that an overwhelming majority approve of) that is out of touch with most Americans?

Hmm. That's a tough one.

I'm an Arlington Republican, but mostly in the closet about my views except for close friends since the Democrats I know are pretty smug and self-righteous. The fellow conservatives I know are mostly religious, and I maybe attend church 5 times a year - so not close with too many of them. I'm pro-choice, and would vote for a 3rd party before I vote for Trump or Biden, but I'd vote Trump just because there may be some sanity in the policies and I don't know who is running the show in the Administration - we all know it ain't Biden.

What really shocks me these days is the Liberal Media is absolutely pushing an agenda, lying to the masses and not covering issues that makes Ds look bad. Try listening to Commentary Magazine Podcast or Breaking Points if you want some common sense policy discussions where you are not being told what to think - learn to think for yourself. The media lobs out softball questions to all Democrats, no matter how awful their policies are in the long run. At least ask the tough questions of both parties. Both parties are awful with spending, but I think Republicans have historically tried to address it without taxing and platitudes about a "fair share" that will never be defined.

Have you tried “outing” yourself to ethnic minority voters in Arlington? Hispanics, Muslims, Arabs & Asians are leaving the democratic party in droves. I am Arab and Muslim. I live in Arlington. When I speak to other minorities we all seem to be noticing the same thing - that our communities are leaving the democratic party. Some are even registering as republicans. It is an interesting phenomenon and I think the media is still in denial. I wonder how this will translate in elections. The majority of the people I spoke to still say they won’t vote republicans (myself included). But I wonder how many people actually will. We will see.
