Agree. She is amazingly tolerant and her deadpan delivery makes me laugh. Love the relationship with her father. |
I only made it like 4 episodes in before I couldn't watch any more, can someone explain the appeal of this show to me?
I just don't understand why we are supposed to care about some arrogant prick trying to run a sandwich shop like a fine dining restaurant for no reason except he's bitter. Is this like a Breaking Bad sort of thing where you're supposed to hate him? At least Walter White had somewhat of an excuse, he was dying an felt he had no other choice. This kid could just shut up and let people make sandwiches without saying "yes chef! No chef!" and there would be zero consequences. |
I love this show! I dont have hulu so i waited until the season was done and finished it recently. My favourite scene was still in S1 - carmys monologue. I also haaaated the 7fishes ep. I grew up in a very small household and this was like, anxiety in a tv show lol. I loved seeing ritchie grow up a bit, he really rocked it.
Can anyone explain <<spoilers>> Why mom/jlc didnt come to the opening? I feel like i missed something there. And I love pete! Hes so sweet. |
You hated Walter White? |
You can google the many, many reviews, recaps, and analyses of this show for that answer because I think it's fair to say that you have a minority viewpoint/perspective. But I don't find Carmy to be an arrogant prick, for starters. |
I blanked out that text - but spoiler answer below <<spoiler>> She's a mentally ill alcoholic that blames herself for her older son's addiction and suicide. She thinks her kids are better off without her at their big event because she might screw it up and make a scene. That was heartbreaking. |
That makes sense, thanks for your thoughts. It made me so sad to see her walk away ![]() |
I interpreted the JLC scene as her knowing that she had ruined many things for her kids before. She made a choice to let them have this night and just walked away. Which was probably a relief to Carmy but would have made Nat sad. I disliked her in the Seven Fishes episode but thought she was very good here. |
Great redemption for Richie. He's so much more likeable this way! |
I don’t get it either. I finished both seasons and thought the show was excellent! Seven fishes was amazing and it left me feeling drained, which is what I think the purpose was. I like Claire, but she derailed him leading up to the opening. He never even got in touch with the refrigerator guy or the design person who put something on the left instead of the right. I enjoyed Sydney’s character and wish she would get together with Marcus. He seems so sweet and I love his episode in Copenhagen. He was with the eyebrows guy! I forget his name, but why did the older black chef dropped out of culinary school? He was having hand issues, but then pretty much disappeared from the storyline until the end. I hope they explore him a little bit more in season three. I really didn’t like the Latina chef at first because she sabotaged Sydney’s dish. But she really grew on me because she really wanted to learn and her character progress has been nice. She’s so proud of her self and her accomplishments. She went to karaoke and sang! |
Agreed, PP, I love Sydney, Marcus, and Tina.
Totally see the chemistry between Sydney and Carmy. Apparently the actors are asked about it a lot and they say they are aiming for it to remain platonic. I love another PP's interpretation that the refrigerator scene was Carmy being "locked in a cage of his own making." Nice. |
Minor spoiler question....
...what was in the box that Marcus received from Copenhagen? Was it the sign? I was half asleep and not totally following. |
You didn't?! |
Of course not. |
Is there a good amount of focus on the actual food? I love movies and shows with food.
There was another one I enjoyed, on Starz, Sweetbitter. |
