We're about 2 mi away from Kentlands, which has great shopping and dining options. The one downside is the long commute to DC, but I WFH 100% and DH WFH 3 days a week (goes into northern VA the other 2), so that's not really a factor at the moment. If I'm looking for better retail, the Clarksburg outlets and Pike & Rose are only a short drive away.

You mean Dufief? Hard pass. One hella cold hood.

Ganglandia! Ganglandi! All is Ganglandia!

Kings Park West in Fairfax. Houses close to $1M or slightly less and plenty of natural space, wide roads, excellent schools, no HOA, lake, swimming pools and no ugly electric wires to look at(they are all underground).

Kentlands/Lakelands! Walkable to schools and shops, commute not great but fine 2x week (even better if you can take MARC/metro). Great family friendly area with lots of activities and kids on every block playing outside.

Ashburn, 20148. I absolutely love our neighborhood. Great neighbors, community events, swim team, schools, walking paths, close to grocery stores and restaurants. I love being close to Harper's Ferry and the beautiful hiking trails in western Loudoun.

We live in the apartments near Vienna Metro. Great location with access to Dow town Vienna, Oakton, Tyson’s and Fairfax. Excellent dog and child friendly neighborhood with townhouse communities and apartment 2 large complexes. The people here appear to be middle class; engineers, government contractors, foreign and state department diplomats, academics galore.

Diverse and cultured community.

+1. We’re also in KPW and love it. We’ve had excellent experiences with the local public schools, enjoy the wonderful green spaces, and are never in car for too long (as Burke poster said everything is w/in 5-10 minutes). Friendly neighbors and old school community feel with kids outdoors on bikes and playing with friends

Close to Rock Creek Park. Can easily get to downtown, plus MD and VA.

Nice houses to look at, not uptight like Chevy Chase. Neighbors are friendly, except for the one that lives next door to me - there’s always that one. Lots are relatively flat and spacious, most with parking.

honestly cathedral/mclean gardens is one of my favorite neighborhoods, especially now with the new addition of wegmans/tatte. such a nice mix of apartments, rowhomes, duplexes, single family homes, and condos. good variety of restaurants and businesses, especially with the area around both the cathedral giant and wegmans. you are even a short trip from glover park and tenleytown. plus the hiking trails nearby are so calm

the rebirth of that area mirrors the decline of cleveland park. while one neighborhood welcomes new businesses and apartments, the other rejects them and then goes ahead and designates a parking lot as 'historical' to prevent new neighbors and businesses.

Moved to Wesley Heights 10 years ago, then McLean Gardens 2 years ago, and finally back to Glover Park at the end of this month.
I'm going Home!

So interesting! We lived in GP from 2004-2015, now in AU park. We still think of GP as our neighborhood. Why did you move back?

Not OP, but we finally snagged a rowhome there after renting for some time. There aren't many available and they all get bidding wars. (We never wanted a detached home with a yard, though were tempted by a few in AU Park and Forest Hills). We basically were deciding between Mt Pleasant and Glover Park.

Huh? You realize how many neighborhoods this area encompasses (Stonebridge, Flints Grove, Westleigh, etc.) - Dufief isn't the only neighborhood out there.

Columbia, Md! The best.

Lol it’s not “North Potomac.”
It’s Gathersburg.

I live in Clarksburg so I have no dog in this fight, but I do find it entertaining that there are some people who are still pressed on pointing out that North Potomac is Gaithersburg. Geez. Get over it. I don't get the hang-up. There is literally a North Potomac that is acknowledged by the post office and the U.S. Census. Sure, call it Gaithersburg but I actually appreciate when people say North Potomac because I know exactly where they are talking about.

Anonymous wrote:We love living in Mount Rainier, MD. It’s genuinely diverse, relatively inexpensive and full of young families. People are friendly and present. We have great local amenities and it’s also pretty easy to get downtown.

Second Mount Rainier. Safe. Nice Neighbors. Diverse. Great community. The city infrastructure is practically be rebuilt right now too.

Also really have enjoyed our landing in Mount Rainier. We were originally aiming for Takoma but were priced out. I like that Mount Rainier is smaller and this makes it easier for it to feel familiar and neighborly.

Bloomingdale DC!! It's very neighborhoody, a diverse community, beautiful housing stock, some nice restaurants, a pool we can walk to, Crispus Attucks as a beautiful neighborhood meeting spot, and walking/biking distance to all the fun things at Union Market/NOMA, Shaw, etc. There's a great community vibe at the school with some really exceptional teachers as well.

Most neighbors are using the public schools. The neighborhood is very diverse especially since we’re very near a lot of apartment complexes. Personally I’m feeling optimistic about property values as well, although we bought the house because we liked it. I know crime can be an issue in DTSS but we are close but not that close, so I don’t have concerns about this.

We’re in a slightly different part of Silver Spring (McKenney Hills/Carroll Knolls neighborhood) and we also love it. Just outside the beltway, walkable to the Forest Glen metro which is clean and quiet, as well as the local elementary schools (Flora Singer and Oakland Terrace) which most people really like. Diverse housing stock, which makes for a great mix of people in all stages of life with all types of jobs (although super kid friendly area so young families are very well represented), and diverse retail (one direction is Wheaton/the mall, or you can walk to Town of Kensington by cutting through Homewood Park). Friendly neighbors who are happy to help you out, very active community association. And affordable for this non-profit family: we live in a large house that’s less than half a mile from a metro! I will say one con is the majority of the diverse housing stock is quite small so it can be hard to find a larger house, but plenty of neighbors have bought or are buying small and adding on.

This is where we are too. Moved here a year ago without really knowing much about the area and have had a great experience. Excited for OTES later this year.

Hello neighbors! I love it here, too! We've had a great experience at Sligo Middle School and Flora Singer and hear only good things about the high school (from people who actually send their kids there). The people are super friendly. There is a real community feel and we interact with neighbors at all ages and stages of life.
