first birthday announcements - not party invites - wording?

Have all of you noticed how old this is? Betty Sue is turning 6 now. I'm sure the mom figured out what to do.

OP why do you have so much free time on your hands? Have you considered charity work?

You should have done it! I'm going to Were a military family so we have family STATES away. Just like a birth announcement is important so is a 1 Y/o announcement! lol Those who r close would love to get one I'm sure. On ours I want to do the chart with a picture of him. By chart I mean the "I weigh.. I'm blank tall.. I have blank teeth.. I love.. Favorites.." Stuff like that then I want to include a thank you for all the love and support we've received during the first year!!

I was thinking of doing the same thing, after her birthday- letting family and friends see a cute photo and a cute saying of a milestone in our lives. More for the ones that didn't come to the party ( those That did will get a thank you photo card)
I think it's a way to keep in touch with those that are far away from us. Why should only the people who came to the party get a picture of a cutie pie baby?? LOL

I mean this in a nice way... but it's a good lesson to learn that no one else cares about your baby the way you do, except maybe grandparents.

That's what facebook is for.

So annoying when people bring back to life ancient threads. I wonder if Jeff can set an automatic lock once a thread has died. It could still be viewed, but wouldn't be able to type something in reply.

So how do people find these old threads?!

Can anyone make a suggestion?

BettySue is turning 1!

BettySue will be 1 this October.

Ugh, I'm not inspired.

This is really weird. You want people to know that your DD is turning one, yet you don't want it to seem like a party invite? What, you just want them to send a present and forget the party? Very odd indeed.

Google and the search engine here on DCUM. People often look for threads, find one via one of the search engines and don't bother to look at the date of the first post. Sometimes they'll look at the date of the last post, but often not even that. They just reply.

I can tell by your post, even a year later!

Searching for something relevant and assuming it's recent. I've done it before.

Sending a printed announcement makes it look like a gift grab. And if we're not "like-minded" by pointing this out to you so be it.

Yes yes yes yes this. Write notes to people thanking them again for their support during this tough time and include a picture of your kid. Could this be wrapped up in a holiday/New Year card possibly?

I am a little bit surprised by these responses. If I received something like what OP is thinking of sending I would think how cute, maybe send her a facebook message and stick the announcement on my fridge for a few weeks. I wouldn't think to get a gift or anything.

I have a puppy that just one turned and wanted to send an announcement just for fun. I am 73 years old and the Nugget has brought such joy into my life. She is an adorable 5 pound Yorkie and I just wanted to share my joy with friends near and far. I missed sending a "Just arrived" card, so I thought this would be just as appropriate. I could also includ a current picture. I never imagined that it would be so controversial.
