Feeling bitter about having been born too late

Anonymous
Boomers milked and despoiled this land, privatized the gains, socialized losses!

Stop the victim mentality and own your life OP.
You are responsible for your own success or failure.

Growth is probably going to suck for the next 20-30 years because of how overvalued the stock and real estate markets are right now. I’m pissed that I was born too late to benefit from any of it. Older generations got their 7%+ returns and now gen Z and younger millennials will be stuck with crappy 3-5% returns based on most forecasts.

Are you nuts? I mean that in the nicest way. There is no reason that historical rates will not continue. Stocks are not overvalued -- there is about to be a run up over the next two years as likely no US recession. Real Estate is not likely overvalued -- not around here anywhere. There is no reason for such a view. Live your life. It will be fine.

The way it’s currently operating it’s socialism for the boomers and the dregs of capitalism for younger millennials and zoomers. A modern FDR would serve us well.

How? Will he nationalize avocado toast?

🤣 sorry so mean, but also so funny!

Stop sleeping. There's so much info out there to help you make good choices about investments.
Socks are going up, stocks are going down. Look at their prices. Pick one or two and buy them when they happen to be down. I bought when they were way up and they continued to go up. Made $8k in a month after they had already ran up.Wake up!

The grass is greener on the other side. How novel.

Bitterness is just choosing to waste your life. I bet that many older people who are wealthy would trade what they have to be able to be young again. Tons of rich people paying for plastic surgery and cryogenics to hold on to what they can't have - youth and life beyond a certain point.

And in 2009. There is nothing new under the sun.

Exactly.

I could feel bitter about having to commute to the office every single day, no teleworking at all, while juggling kids, daycare, before and after-care, etc. Now my young co-workers are fully virtual and the parents among them don't have that same time and financial struggle.

I'm a fed and now feds get free maternity and paternity leave. I didn't have that, I used the leave I had earned, sick leave that I could have applied to my retirement.

My first home mortgage was at 7%, my oldest son bought his first house 3 years ago at 3%.

I've lived through many versions of the economy in my years, from remembering only being able to get gas in 70s every other day based on your license plate number, to watching my 401K (TSP in the Fed) climb and nose-dive many times over.

Play the long game, Grasshopper.

OMG, shut up stupid entitled millennial/gen z brat. I'm so sick of you guys complaining all the time about how your lives are so hard, mommy/daddy are just awful people, blah blah blah. Grow up. You're presumably in your 30s you should consider acting like ite.

-Young Gen X.

K boomer

That doesn’t work because they’re literally not a boomer.
anyone older than millennial is boomer mindset

Millennials are in their 40s too. They are boomers. Basically you want to call anyone that is 40+ a boomer. Don’t worry, we’ll throw your welcome to the club party in 10 years.

LOL, just already have money to invest and time the market, it's easy!

I can't wait to hear your advice on other matters. Got depression? Just cheer up! Addicted to alcohol? Just stop drinking!

I think it's true that Boomers hit a sweet spot economically, true. But looked at over the history of humanity, we are very fortunate OP.

Anonymous wrote:I was first able to invest money in the late 90's. If you look at the DJIA, the market was basically flat for the next 15 years. It went up (tech runup), then down (tech crash), climbed a bit, great recession, recovery. It wasn't until the mid-2010's that I started to see real, long-term growth in my retirement accounts. So complaining about "missing out" is nothing new.

I was there with you, it sucked so bad in my small town that I had to move to DC and worked 3 jobs every week until I got on my professional track.

Good thing I don’t drive.

Well if you were born in rural Any state, you would need to in order to function

Yeah, well I'm a Gen Xer who was born too early for Tinder. Swiping right (and responding to people who do the same) would have been a lot easier than trying to chat up random women in bars ("I have a boyfriend").
