Same when I graduated in a recession in 1992.
And in 2009. There is nothing new under the sun.
Exactly. I could feel bitter about having to commute to the office every single day, no teleworking at all, while juggling kids, daycare, before and after-care, etc. Now my young co-workers are fully virtual and the parents among them don't have that same time and financial struggle. I'm a fed and now feds get free maternity and paternity leave. I didn't have that, I used the leave I had earned, sick leave that I could have applied to my retirement. My first home mortgage was at 7%, my oldest son bought his first house 3 years ago at 3%. I've lived through many versions of the economy in my years, from remembering only being able to get gas in 70s every other day based on your license plate number, to watching my 401K (TSP in the Fed) climb and nose-dive many times over. Play the long game, Grasshopper.
