It's whether you would've stopped Hitler in 1939? Europe (U.S. allies) are freaked out by this:
https://t.me/ukr_sof/528

Despite the cinematic music, this is not video game footage. It's the Russian military using incendiary weapons on civilian housing. The Russian army has raped, pillaged, murdered, stolen children - you name it. Go back a few pages on this post. Yesterday the Russian State Duma and Interior Ministry were trying to determine if a girl who braided her hair blue and yellow should be labeled a traitor, an Enemy of the State. This is an example of what plays on Russian national TV:
https://www.newsweek.com/russian-state-tv-map-us-borders-new-mexico-ukraine-war-1797231

Also, you seem to be blissfully in the dark of how the Russians have directly manipulated US public opinion using our own social media? Election interference ring a bell? Active spying? Maybe you don't watch the news?

The Cold War is hotter than it's ever been, but the American public is somewhat stupid and hasn't caught on yet.

Putin is not hitler.

Russia is not interwar Germany.

Keep your eye on China.

We are being led by dumb strategists.

China's watching to see whether the West will capitulate on Russia. Because that's the green light for them to go after Taiwan.

I promise this is an honest question but what is the strategic significance of Taiwan for the US?

You do not understand microchips, even after 2020-21 ??

Moreover, Taiwan will be China’s first step, but hardly its last.

Pay closer attention to China. Now.

Back to F-16s:

Russia has provoked the West by using their new Kinzal / Satan hyper-sonic weapons. Putin has crossed a red line.

This provocation MUST NOT GO UNANSWERED.

Besides, maybe Ukraine purchased them. There is no proof they did not just buy them, like any nation could.

The patriot worked against them, yet another Russian super weapon that turned out to be inferior to western technology

Can’t it just be relocated? I think they are actually doing it already
Also why there in the first place? I am sure China wanted it for a long time
Is it the same as flirting with ex ussr republics like Georgia and Ukraine?

No

Have you seen what happens when they have tried to relocate it to the us?

Tsmc said Americans are the worst employees in the semi fab space

😂

It was covered in nyt and posted on the jobs board here

Fabs are really expensive and it’s hard to compete against a monopolist with state funding

That is one factor. But the major issue is deterring big nations from annexing smaller countries. This is how world wars start.

No one one gives a hoot abut that — if brazil decided to annex Uruguay, no one would care. If Australia did it to NZ, no one would care also.

It’s not big vs small

It’s about strategic hinge points.

Semis are the main factor

The second is China gets a foothold to project power into the pacific further.

Argentina tried to annex the falklands, the British smacked it down but no one was worried about world war

Personally, I am opposed and I fear this will lead to a wider war.

I also hope Biden will try to broker a deal to avoid escalation. Maybe if Russia agrees not to use its planes to bomb Ukrainian cities Ukraine will agree not to bomb cities in Russia.

DP and this is my biggest concern - I don’t think there will be nuclear anything but I don’t want civilians to die on either side.
I know I am talking like a layperson not a politician but I don’t really care who rules both these countries or how they are divided up - I am sure people will figure out their lives under either president. I do care for no more lives lost though, no more cities bombed, and no more tears shed.

So I take it you'd happily live under president Putin as well, if it came to pass that he became your president by force?

Yes, I’d rather live under him (in fact life in Russia was pretty ok until 2022) than lose my relatives, my home and my life. That’s for sure!

Baa. Feel free to leave. I think you can probably catch a flight from Istanbul to Moscow? Goodbye!

Shipping lanes and semiconductors. If Taiwan falls, China will control most shipping lanes to/from India and the Middle East to/from the US West Coast, Korea, Japan, etc.

So as usual it all boils down to strategic control.

We can’t learn to make our own because?

Americans don’t work as hard as Taiwanese do at fabs

that’s the literal answer - not even joking — nyt covered it

DP: honestly I would rather all the work visas went to them than the body shops of a large SA country!

Which is exactly why I’m rooting for China. Taiwan is basically Florida that broke away from the US and became a right wing looney bin. The sooner China lays a smackdown on it, the better.
