Is the GOP worried about its survival?

The more bat$hit crazy the Democrats get, the more comfortable I am, as a Republican, that reasonable Democrats will start to defect from the Democratic Party.

Walk Away, if you will.

Democrats seem to be all about government censorship, government control, demonizing law enforcement, over turning Constitutional Amendments, open borders, and supporting teachers unions - NOT supporting parents and students.

Joe Biden's presidency is the cause of reasonable Democrats and classical liberals to rethink their affiliation with the Democratic Party.

wow. talk about projecting.

I'm sorry, who is it banning books and controlling medical care for women and trans people?

Nobody is banning books. I am fine with making sure certain books are not available in school libraries. That is not banning.
Placing limits on abortion? I am all for it. The life inside the woman matters.
And, who is limiting care for trans people? You think that CHILDREN should have life changing medication and surgical procedures when are not of the age of consent?

This is why the the GOP can't attract the young voters. They are supposed to vote for the folks who offer them LESS rights than their moms? The folks that take the the books their mom could read are trash them? The folks that won't take global warming seriously? The folks that want their gay friends and family to have KESS rights? It makes no sense to them.

Lol. Southern Texas.

The Rio Grande Valley used to be heavily blue.

Democrats should think long and hard before they rely on the "demography is destiny" strategy. Between 2016 to 2020 Trump improved his standing with every single demographic group except for white men.

This. The Rio Grande Valley was supposed to predict the future of Texas as the Hispanic vote grew, now the Hispanic vote there is deep red. It seems strange to rely on votes from a group that is very opposed to a large portion of your platform, but I guess that's the plan

Look what voting R has gotten them: https://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/rio-grande-valley-tops-list-of-americas-poorest-cities/

OK, they are still voting R though.

Yes, the GOP relies on 3 things: religious people, poor people, and ignorant people. They are losing 2 of those things groups because people are becoming less religious and people are more educated now.

I mean it looks like they are going to nominate trump again. That all you really need to say. Not exactly an inspirational figure for a young female voter ..unless you want to be wife number four I guess.

I'm old enough to remember all the proclamations that the GOP was losing the young voters.... back in the 1990s. Flash forward 30 years and where are we? Oh! The GOP is still around. With even more female congressmen and senators and governors than 30 years ago.

You just don't know young people outside your cultural bubble. Or anyone outside your cultural bubble, when you get down to it.

Border is a complete disaster, crime is out of control, fringe issues have taken full control of the party. Currently, people like me are not being represented by Democrats, Asians and Hispanics are two groups that could potentially move to moderate GOP candidates.

Democrats are too smug and are taking certain groups for granted, It won’t shake out well. Voters like me, we want border control, as a country either you have a border or not. Current situation at the border is not sustainable. There were two murders in DC ( both Asian men), Mayor Bowser couldn’t be bothered to share a message of sympathy, instead she twisted herself into a pretzel trying to explain why the criminals weren’t so bad.

Are we blaming the victims now just so we can protect certain groups? As an Asian, if any Asians commits crime, go ahead and make an example out of him/her so that our kids can learn better.

I live in McLean right next to Tysons and crime has increased tremendously in last 4-5 years. No, before you brand me as racist, I used to live in the exurbs with all kinds of ethnicities as our neighbors ( it’s true even now but DCUM doesn’t think McLean has right kind of diversity), they were majority good people trying to live their lives.

I am voting based on abortion, gun control & environmental protection.

mostly same, except I will add human rights

I will be voting based on border control, crime control and general common sense.

I agree with that And, I will add..... the economy and foreign policy.
Biden has f'ed up all of these.

This is why they are doing so much education reform in many states. The GOP knows it cannot get most of the educated young populous to join its ranks.

If they change what kids can learn and how they can learn that information, the GOP controls the narrative.

The GOP likes to toss around the term woke but what they really mean is educated. They aren't scared of a woke society. They are scared of an educated. Society is more educated than ever before and the masses are no longer dumb enough to fall for their tricks and talking points.

When I was in HS in VA, THE clubs to be part of were the Young Christians Club and the Young Republicans Club. Both had so many student members that they had to meet in the auditorium and lunch rooms, respectively. Their club photos in the yearbook took up full pages to two full pages some years. The Young Democrats club had maybe 3 dozen students and met in a normal classroom and had a small block in the yearbook.

Now, at the high school my teens attend, the PRISM GSA club has the most members and the second largest club is the Young Democrats. There are only a few handfuls of students in the Young Republicans club and maybe a dozen or so in the Christianity Club.

All of this. I am white, female, GenX. I have become more liberal over time. I'd say my friend/peer group is almost evenly divided. But the kids, to a person, seem liberal in ways that we were not. I don't think the GOP has a future with the kids, starting with milllenials.

Actually I think Gen Z is publicly liberal in ways older generations were not. But private voting will be different.

Anonymous wrote:Well, it’s one of the main reasons the GOP has become so anti-democratic. They are big into voter suppression and doing whatever they can to take real issues out of the hands of voters. If they can’t win elections due to demographic trends, they can just destroy our democracy and run it like an oligarchy.

Thank you for this clarification. I never will saw it that way.

Some may ask, what about those straight, white Christian men over 50? Those men need to feel like they can return "home" to a more sane and rational and moderate space, which for now is only the Democratic party. Unfortunately, the Democratic party makes people pick a team, and they practically force that demographic of men away. How? Well, by placing blame for centuries of history at their feet, when they themselves may never had any power of authority over anyone.

OMG, STFU

Will you idiots quit your whining about being taught....history?

No one is telling you this is your fault. By learning our history, we can take lessons from it and actually make changes to make this country a more equal and free place for ALL

But, oh, no - it hurts the old white male fee fees.

Please understand that in many cases it goes beyond history lessons and seems more like payback. Payback for men that didn’t do anything wrong.

Oh good lord. Give us CONCRETE examples of this payback where you personally have been attacked that the sins of white Americans of yesteryear is YOUR fault.

I suspect it's more that you are mad you can't worship the ancestors anymore because you've found out what they did and realize it's a bad look.

But to worry about GOP survival is weird. They came close to winning 2020 and won the majority of house votes cast in 2022.

The GOP does have a bizarre obsession with extreme abortion rights (not quite offset by the Democrats' bizarre obsession with trans rights and cruel indifference to the border crisis and identity politics that is more divisive than healing). But you might ask yourself why the Democrats, if they're so much better, apparently, aren't blowing out the GOP in every election?

I daresay most Americans would be happy for both parties to completely self destruct and start over from scratch.

Uh - no. I think Dems are, on the whole, doing a pretty good job in a pretty hard circumstance. I am not interested in blowing everything up and starting again. There's no both sides here; no, we all made mistakes.

Disagree. The Democrats own the border crisis. They stood by and did nothing as millions poured over the border. The Democrats pushed progressive policies in major urban areas that have seen a corresponding explosion of crime and murders and violence. The various infrastructure and stimulus bills definitely fueled inflation. They are the public face of highly divisive identity politics pitting people against people. They have a lackluster record of supporting basic concepts like freedom of speech or press (as the twitter files revealed), which, if anything, are basic rights the party no longer values. The cronyism between the Democrats and legacy media and much of the Federal bureaucracy is disturbing. The rush to support trans right without seriously analyzing the long term implications for children's wellbeing with something they don't fully understand has been unhealthy and unproductive.

If you really want to understand why the Democrats are so despised by the 48% or so of Americans, try to step outside your bubble a bit.

Thank you. Totally agree. And, I would add to that.... foreign policy.
It was a HUGE mistake not to have any debates regarding foreign policy. Biden has been a disaster.

Stop lying. Underage trans children cannot get surgical procedures until age 18. Many doctors/surgeons will still not do certain surgeries until 21.

Hormones are not "life-changing" in the way you mean it. If a person born female begins taking testosterone to transition to male, they will begin de-transitioning if they stop taking the hormones. Same with a male to female trans person. Hormones ARE life-changing in that it affirms their outward appearance with how they see themselves. Gender-affirming care is critical in preventing suicide.

You vomit talking points you hear and clickbait headlines you read.

The bolded is provably false. I honestly don’t know why trans rights proponents keep pushing this, when there are so many examples of teenagers who have had surgery. There are even litigations about it.

I have heard multiple women in very different situations say they feel politically homeless now. Different ages and different races too. I’m not sure what to make of it, but it does feel like a shift to me.
