It’s a very odd selection of schools to apply to. Seems like OP and her daughter did not do sufficient research or soul searching at the beginning of the process. |
Allentown is not “impoverished.” https://www.point2homes.com/US/Neighborhood/PA/Lehigh-Valley-Demographics.html And the school sits in a nice leafy suburb walking distance from downtown. |
I went to Muhlenberg (graduated 9 years ago). There are definitely some quirky people there, especially in theatre, but I would not describe the vast majority of students that way. Honestly, I think it’s a place where anyone can find their group; my friends and I were all extremely happy there. Don’t think the vibes/types of students have changed much since I left. |
Thank you for this link. It tells us blue-collar employees account for 25.35%. over 77k people live below the poverty line majority of population had "some high school" - 38.96% while 2.96% had "no high school" It's hardly Bethesda. |
What is also weird and creepy from those results is over 30% of the population "never married" |
Right. It isn’t Bethesda. Bethesda is one of the richest suburbs in one of the richest metropolitan areas of one of the richest countries on the planet. If you only want you kid to go to school in a rich bubble that is fine, but most people think it’s a fine thing for college kids to live as neighbors to non-rich people. |
Mediocre school, super lame location. |
But she IS in at Pitt. Maybe that’s a good middle choice amongst her options, OP? |
Same as both Maryland and Virginia. What on earth is “weird and creepy” about that? |
No one said it was Bethesda. |
Yes. Children and young adults are part of total population, too. |
It's impoverished |
Any place that is not Bethesda is impoverished. |
UMD !! There is so much more offered and available to your DD than she may realize |
My kid was accepted to William & Mary and probably would have been to Emory as well. He has a learning plan, takes ADHD medication, and has anxiety. He is also athletic, incredibly intelligent, super cute, modest, and kind. Perhaps it's you and your kid who are quirky. I don't think you deserve any good advice here, OP, so perhaps you should look elsewhere. |
