Do you find it fishy if someone calls in “sick” on a Friday

That list was used when we had reductions in force.

You are an idiot if you think that was a good idea.

It was.

Glad to know you're an idiot then. Typical overpaid HR person.

My six year old stayed home Thursday - I was able to still get most my work done because she was low energy. Then Thurs night she was up vomiting and home Friday. I was still able to get some work done, but took her to the doctor and was tired from a lack of sleep. I actually found myself wondering if it looked fishy at all, but it is what it is. (And I suspect helped that I was available for meetings much of the two days.)

Fishy? No. And why do you care?

I remember a Dilbert where the dog said 40% of employee sick days were on Mondays and Fridays. Clearly employee abuse.

We have a company policy that if you call in sick the day before or after a paid holiday, you no longer get paid for that holiday. You’re welcome to use vacation lave to schedule time off in advance before and after holidays, but you can’t just “call in sick” to give yourself a longer holiday

If they’re entitled to the sick day, why can’t they take it? More people should use up their allotted PTO/sick days. They’re more productive that way

That’s BS. So if I actually break my arm on a Fri before long weekend, I don’t get a sick day if it needs to be treated? F that

What a moronic policy. Why do you even care? And you already posted this several pages ago.

No, the person a few pages ago said they can’t even schedule advance leave around the holiday. We’re allowed to schedule it just not call out.

I have cancer and multiple chronic illnesses. It is not unusual for me to be absent the Friday before a long weekend because I schedule grueling medical procedures when I’ll have the maximum recovery time. However, my job doesn’t have every federal holiday off so this is really maybe 2-3x a year for me. If a coworker is tracking this, they should know that our supervisor finds this less disruptive than me missing 4 days during the week or a Friday and a non-holiday Monday.

What type of business is this? Seems like a really questionable policy, possibly even illegal and discriminatory for people with disabilities or chronic health issues.

I schedule flu vaccines on a Friday so I can be sick the whole weekend and then be able to come.in on Monday.

People have their reasons OP and they are not all suspicious.

MCPS did this for years. It was infuriating.

Payroll services. I suppose if someone had a chronic illness or could provide proof of a hospital visit it would be ok. I haven’t asked.
