Is the drug problem as bad as it sounds?

MCPS is just informing your because they are not buying the drugs at school and they are not dying at school (in general).

Sure there are still some kids getting pot, but that is not what people are freaking out about.

This is nto the long slow heroine death where it takes years of rehab to finally overdose. This is 1 stupid kid trying 1 pill and dying.

The girl who just died, which prompted the MCPS press conference went to Kennedy, which is not a W school, and her mother is a Hispanic immigrant who doesn't even speak English.

The literal thing you're complaining about, that POC kids have been negatively impacted by drugs, is why this is high profile right now.

Furthermore, while substance abuse has been an issue, the rates of death with the substance abuse we're seeing with fentanyl is unprecedented. You have no education or awareness of the issue.

FWIW I've always believed these problems were even worse at the wealthy schools. Everyone says they have a lot of drugs at the W's.

Your argument makes zero sense. No one cares about the problem affecting POC kids, but MCPS literally had an emergency press conference in response to a POC kid overdosing who attended a majority POC school.

Again: Drug use has existed among teenagers for years. Crack (which btw was not super prevalent in the last two decades among MCPS students) was highly addictive in 70s and 80s, but the death rate of crack is not on par with fentanyl, and again, the use of fentanyl among YOUTH is alarming. It's one thing to turn a blind eye to POC kids using weed, because they weren't dropping dead like flies from it. But these percocets/fentanyl are completely different. It's a game changer.

As I said, your lack of awareness and education on the topic is glaring and you just want to act like people only care about white kids in MCPS and that's not true.

I absolutely agree and acknowledge that historically and even today, majority-white schools in Bethesda/Potomac do get more resources and more attention than majority-minority schools in East County MoCo, but on this drug issue, EVERYONE is impacted throughout MCPS and EVERYONE is alarmed.

Instead of trying to win points by shitting on white kids who might be struggling with substance abuse, think about how you can help protect and defend all kids throughout MCPS from the chaos and trauma of illegal substances. Do better.

No news reports have picked up on it, cause sadly, bad news from Kennedy doesn't get as much press as the W schools, but the principal sent a letter out. Would attach it here but board doesn't allow for attachments.

You're right, Ashleigh did die at home, but her mother specifically complained about her daughter using in the school bathrooms at Kennedy and security and admin doing nothing to prevent her from doing so.
