http://davidfishback.blogspot.com/2022/09/two-problematic-montgomery-county-md.html?m=1 Unlike the answers to the Metro DC PFLAG questionnaire provided by Ms. Rivera Oven (and Ms. Silvestre), which were full-throated affirmations of the MCPS approach to LGBTQ+ matters in recent years, Ms. Wells’ answers, for the most part, were not responsive |
No they don’t . Love the sinner hate the sin. They know people are gay. They love them. But they won’t condone sin in a religious setting |
David Fishback is a huge extremist that has a history of attacking anyone not extreme enough for him and wrote this hit piece before the primary. There have been several forums and interviews since then but some are happy to continue this narrative to attack her. Unlike her opponent she has shown up for them all. |
You are changing the subject to evade the point that you are a bigot. You took issue with Well’s being a member of a Black church that you felt was anti-LGBTQ. Rivera-Oven is also a member of a church that is anti-LGBTQ. You are now pivoting to whether or not one candidate has filled in a LGBTQ questionnaire sufficiently positively. Let’s get back to the first question, should Rivera-Oven’s membership in an anti-LGBTQ church exclude her from being able to serve on the BOE? Yes or no? |
Being a black church has nothing to do with this. I’m a pansexual transgender person and I would never vote for a candidate that isn’t absolutely clear in their policy on LGBT rights. You’re conflating membership in a church with being a high level board member. One is common and she has given us her views. The other is very uncommon and she was evasive on her views. The fact that she can’t just say she supports queer kids in MoCo schools and her weird beliefs on CRT are enough to say that she is a conservative. I do not vote for conservatives. |

It's clear that Rivera-Owen is the establishment's pick.
What is unclear is does she even want to be on school board? She has shown a complete lack of interest in the process on the whole, and eschews all social media and really any campaining at all. It's frankly insulting. |
She ran for County Council in 2018 and only ran for school board because she lost that. Her son just won an MCDCC race. She barely mentions schools when talking about.... her school board candidacy. So I'm going to go with definitely not. Its a stepping stone for her. |
Unless you can specifically define the level of activity in an anti-LGBTQ church that is problematic versus okay, you are just making excuses for your bigotry. |
accountabililty means allowing hate against our LGBTQ students? OK, got it. |
It sounds like she’s the one that’s bigoted to me based on her non answers. |
| There were no lines at my polling center in Silver Spring this morning, and attendance has been pretty sparse till now at least. I live across the street and am WFH today so I’ve been keeping an eye. I wonder if people voted by mail or are just not interested. |
Liberals like you are why this is happening. Weaponizing bigotry while disturbingly trying to wrap it as inclusion. https://morningconsult.com/2022/11/02/republicans-outperforming-2018-margins-among-voters-of-color/ |
I absolutely don’t think Elrich would do a better job. Sullivan can’t get anything done with the council in his way, which is strictly better than Elrich working on his agenda. So I voted D down the line, except for Sullivan. I’m under no illusion he has any chance, but maybe a closer-than-expected outcome will scare the county voters into nominating a more sensible candidate next time. |
You don’t seem to know who Esther Wells is. Or maybe you do and you’re simply an MCEA member worried about losing its stranglehold over the board. |
