I am 48 - I press no tip and feel no shame and go back often to places that do this |
And you are free to look for and apply for jobs that do pay $16 / hr Your employer is the one who is the problem bc they are paying the salary. Not the residents. |
Yes. My theory is that its younger adults feeling guilt or pressure to do this. |
I'm not ok with it. The employees begin to expect a tip and often act like asses if they don't get one. The Jersey Mikes near me is like that. The place is also gross and dirty but the employees really push the tip and have pointed it out repeatedly and openly act pissed if I don't tip. I hate the apps that add it. |

It does seem like this practice may be driving away business.
Somewhat related, my nail salon requires cash tips. There are so many times I would like to get a manicure but don’t have cash on me. I don’t have the time to walk or drive to the nearest ATM, so I skip getting my nails done. I can’t be the only one. |
+1. I refuse to tip when I have to do the work, like at a self-serve frozen yogurt place. All they do is read the scale and take my money. Not tip warranting. Next thing you know, Macy's will have a tip jar. It's really getting out of hand. |
Tell them that you'll report their business for suspected tax evasion to the state AG. |
