That's by design. Trying to make you as uncomfortable as possible. |
When I lived in three different countries in Europe a 20% gratuity was automatically added to check. My brother didn't realize this and added another 20% until I told him. |
Tipping is becoming more common in my part of Europe even though everyone here earns a living wage. |
Which countries? Never seen that in my parts. |
| Tipping culture is actually becoming problematic for those who rely on tips (waiters, etc.) When we impose something on everyone, regardless of the job or how well it done (or more importantly, whether it's actually part of the compensation structure), people eventually lose sight of the importance of tipping for certain employees. |
Would I like your corporation to be able to deduct my charitable giving on their taxes? No thank you, I’ll deduct it from my own. |
I think this about Bombas, but damn I love their socks. |
Oh gosh, this just happened to me. I was picking up takeout at a counter (at a place where there is no waitstaff) and the default tip was 20%. I felt so bad entering “other amount” and giving 10% while they watched me. I’m a generous tipper too but carry out diesnot merit 20%, especially on an expensive order when it would be a significant chunk of change. |
|
^*does not merit.
Just to add- even 10% was a significant amount because I ordered 4 things, and none cheap. I’d much prefer a tip jar where I could throw in a few bucks! |
| Are most people tipping 20% at restaurants pre or post tax?? |
|
I don't tip in those situations either.
Do you guys tip 20% for a hairdresser who is independent? She works out of a salon with others but they are all independent and rent the space. I've been tipping as if she's an employee (20%) but I always hear that it isn't necessary |
I think 20%+ is pretty standard for hair |
Spirit Halloween is the worst with this. I was literally yelled at as I walked out "but don't you care about children" after declining 3 attempts at Donation (as I held the hands of two children btw). |
I give $1. I figure that's fair for putting condiments in a bag. |
| I’m with you, OP. I don’t tip with 0 guilt. |
