DC crime hasn’t been shocking to me for decades. That’s the reason I chose NOT to live there. I am however shocked that it is creeping farther and farther out. And you’re right - now I do give a rats a$$. Because I don’t want the DC crime cesspool running rampant where I live. And I make no apologies for that.

The Council has enacted something like 20 different police reform requirements that weren't really needed, which has completely paralyzed the department as they try to implement them with inadequate funding and staffing. And that leaves exactly zero time to be innovative or forward thinking like they used to be. And surrounding jurisdictions are passing us by with much better, more efficient crime control methods.

Thank you, PP. Yes, the county council is directly responsible for this. They continue to call for a smaller police force with fewer powers. That’s in their written Task Force plan. Montgomery County is a great place to commit crime now. There’s few police, and the ones that remain have few powers. That is 100%, directly a result of county council reforms.

Why commit a crime in a neighboring jurisdiction when you can commit it in Montgomery County with zero consequences?

Well, the car jacking at Rockville Town Center a few weeks ago was at around 11:30am and I barely saw much about it on the news. The high school was on lockdown. But kids from RM go hang have lunch at Town Center often. They caught the DC teens who did it near Rockville Pike/Gude Drive later.

The teens carjacking is an epidemic. I think it’s because teens want a car, and they’re hard to steal now. They want a car with a key, and that means carjacking someone. It’s so dumb and they have no plan except to ride around and then ditch the car. They’re too stupid to realize how easy it is for someone to get killed. We need the car companies to come up with technologies to prevent this ASAP. There needs to be a fast way to disable and recover the car. Possibly also we need dash cams, although I was on a carjacking jury where the stupid kids took their own pictures of themselves in the stolen car, then posted them to social media. So the level of idiocy is extremely high.

I think it’s darker than that … teens carjack cars as part of an organized crime ring, so the car can be sold or used in a crime. sometimes joyriding, but my money is on organized crime for teens coming from DC to carjack in Rockville.

Correct. Stupid kids joyriding is rare. Most crimes have a financial incentive.
And I agree that criminal activity in Montgomery County is influenced by the complete mess that is DC right now. This is why we need federal gun control.

They cut positions and MCPD *still* can’t recruit enough people. This isn’t hard. MCPD was a stellar department until the council decided to ruin it.
