What does ASAP mean to you?

Op r u on the spectrum?

Both your rigid, literal, decomposed definition, lack of social cues or understanding, and defiance/belligerence when told of a reasoning different than your own seems to suggest you are.

I used this in an email to a staff member and he panicked because he read this as right away. Gave me an attitude because apparently he had a lot of stuff that needs to do first. I did not understand what we was going on about at first, until he explained it was because I said ASAP and that meant now? I explained back that this is not what it meant and that if he needs to do something right now then I would have said so.

So, this got me into thinking, do people actually think ASAP is equal to Now? I thought that is possible because people misuse “Do you mind?” all the time, I barely hear people answer properly to that question.

What do you think?

Wtf?

Someone can be arrogant with no social skills and not be on the spectrum.

OP - how do you not understand what ASAP means? Yikes!
I can only imagine how confusing your communications to your subordinates must be.

OP you sound really, really dumb. ASAP means as soon as possible. Like TODAY.

This has to be the second weirdest DCUM thread I have ever read, topped only by Eagle/Claw/SNAFU or whatever the heck that was.

Your employee was correct in getting back to you with his concerns. If I get an aSAP request, I write/message back and say "I will have this to you by the end of the day, I am working on this other thing that Joe needs before his 2:00pm meeting." Then if it's more urgent that Joe's thing, you can sort that out with him.

+1 ASAP means drop whatever else you're working on and get this thing done.

But in a healthy working relationship, an ASAP assignment would also come with the ability to have a conversation about how this will affect other deadlines/priorities.

Is anyone else really curious about what OP thinks “Do you mind?” means?

Someone can be arrogant with no social skills and not be on the spectrum.

Or they can be on the spectrum and get a life coach:
Rigid
Literal black & white take
No empathy/other perspective incorporated
No social skills
Poor communicator
Argumentative
Rewrites the narrative
Cannot imagine another explanation than his
Stoops off when proven wrong
