He needs to get over it. $200k here and we’re full pay for one at a $30k school and it’s fine. He sounds spoiled.

Just under $500k and NW is in the $10M range. Was a lot more before Biden took office. Thanks Sleepy Joe.

HHI appt $400k with $42k and $38k tuition for 2 kids in private NOVA. We hate it but still comfortable in that we do eat out, vacation, etc. we still have a budget and don't go nuts but every time we think about the money it's cringe time. But 1 kid needs the special setting, public wouldn't work and we need to get in same school calendar. Kid 2 doesn't need it but thriving because of it. Goal is to return to public for both in HS. I don't think we could do it on less than $400k to stay happy and sane. We are very grateful for our situation. I think the tuitions are truly insane!

Hi Prince Harry!

HHI $425K
NW About 4 million? About a million is our in our house.
We pay $50K tuition, grandparents pay another $50K.

We have no idea what inheritance we'll get--we're not from DCUM wealthy families (truly we are not--I grew up second hand shopping) but our parents saved money over time, have decent pensions and are massive advocates for education.

Anonymous wrote:$170k, paying $40k per year for private school for two kids (one gets some financial aid). Net worth about $2M, mostly in retirement and some house equity. College will be a struggle - kids will go to state or lower ranked schools for merit, but the investment was life-changing. Public school is not for sensitive kids.

Echoing this. HHI $180K, paying $20K each (two kids). Both special needs (mild to moderate) so not a lot of options.

$300k, paying $50k.

Anonymous wrote:HHI gross $125k-$200k, depending on the year. Family of 5 on a single federal salary. We don't own a home, but we also don't pay rent or utilities. 1 kid in private first grade at a small, not-well-known school. Tuition+fees ~$8,000. Supplies, uniforms, and the twice daily commute are around $2,000 for this year. It's ridiculously cheap compared to almost any other private school in the area. But given that we just barely paid off our own student loans, inflation is out of control, and we have very aggressive financial goals in other areas, we still feel it in an admittedly minor way. But private school is also one of those aggressive financial priorities. Our kid (all of them, actually) is HFA, extremely sensitive, and is thriving in the current school. Watching the blossoming development and the pure love and devotion of all the staff and teachers has just been phenomenal the past couple years. It's the best money we've ever spent on this kid. I can't imagine at this point that we will ever go public, but who knows. Paying for all 3 to do their entire careers in private schools will be an enormous stretch, particularly in the MS/HS years. We get no help from any family. Kids have extremely modest 529s for school and college but given current market conditions that's not a huge help either.

So you’re going to say you found an $8k/year school with a transformative impact on your kid and then not tell us what school it is? Please let us know!
