Those who have children at privates, what is your HHI and net worth?

Can't wait to be done as well. It is an obscene amount of money.

Well, then there is college tuition …

Maybe grandparents have generously offered to cover college tuition. Many with the means to do it do so.

While I sort of agree with you (as a private school parent whose school is very generous with aid to the point I know Chanel bag wearing SAHMs whose family qualifies) on the other hand, these type of “low UMC” families tend to draw the short end of the stick if they don’t qualify for aid- they can’t really afford to go private, but only low income families get aid and only truly upper class families can afford full pay. If a school cares about having students across the spectrum of HHI, it makes sense.

PP here- wanted to follow up and say that I know 900k is an expensive home objectively. I’m in NY where a decent but pretty average house is 900k these days.

Net worth about 3 million not including our inheritances which are mostly real estate that are worth about 6 million right now. No mortgages on those properties.

Talk about counting chickens. Are your relatives still alive?

Plenty. Will be paying less for the one in college than the one in HS.

Circa 2/10 million. 2 at 100,000 plus per year combined. Have received no help on anything so far BUT likely to inherit millions or tens of millions someday down the road.

$280k HHI, $3M net worth, pay for one $40k tuition (no aid).

Likely switching back to public after next year.

Do you think they should sell the home so that they can pay for school? That’s not an extravagant home in most parts of DC and the suburbs.

1.6 mil and three in the school - around 40k each.
It’s a painful amount of money even at 1.6

$225k HHI, one in private.

We get no financial aid.

Irrelevant when there is a continuously growing, limited use trust fund paying for education -- more common than you'd expect. When I realized this, I stopped comparing our means to others because you never know who has hidden wealth or fairy godmothers.

Buy in PG County. More affordable.

$200k, 1 in a 30k school. No FA. It’s fine. We live modestly.
