Charters: What covid precautions has your school announced for the upcoming year?

This is interesting. Especially since I would imagine KIPP is truly focused on equity in a way not all charters are.

We are high on the waitlist and I am hoping they announce one way or another before we get a spot (if we do) because it will be a determinative factor for us. We are in a DCPS and intend to send DC without a mask this year (masked all last year, even after they lifted the mandate, because it was clear the teacher would have been uncomfortable with it). We'd like to move to ITDS within the next few years, but if they do a mask mandate this year, it's not hard enough to get into for us to opt in. We have a few years and the stats for mid-elementary waitlists are favorable to us.

Also do not want our child to start a new school in a mask.

I agree and wish they would all just announce. People are now making decisions based on this. Many of us don't want to be in a mask mandated environment any longer.

If you all decline/depart based on continued masking, please TELL THEM that is why. I feel like they need to be jolted out of the paralysis they seem to be under from the super anxious parents that somehow still are voting for OUTDOOR masking as of the end of last school year. -current ITDS parent

Read the thread and take an educated guess.

DCB hasn't announced yet. Did a parent survey that closed July 31. Expecting an update any day now.

Comment stands. You can still make an educated guess based on how the thread is going.

Yes of course. That's why they don't have time for the making up horsesht. Many such cases.

It will be interesting to see the order in which schools drop the mandate. Particularly because I’ve heard from (white MC) charter families more than once that keeping mandatory masking is to protect the poor minority kids that had “very different” COVID experiences than “us.” No mind that all of the demographics of kids are our Title 1 took off masks at the same rates when DCPS went optional.

I assume all of the pro-equity charters will also be disproportionately kicking out Black kids based on the vaccine mandate.

Stokes announced that masks would be optional indoors for the upcoming school year. This was sent out the last week of school last year

Well dang, if Stokes is going option then there's hope for anyone!

The state of Massachusetts released guidelines today that include no masks, no testing other than symptomatic, no quarantine for exposure and any Covid closure must count as a snow day or be made up.

Would that our leaders had the same sanity as the commonwealth.

I hope this isn't a bad omen, but PG county is going back to mask mandates because the transmission level is high, per the CDC. DC is at medium and Montgomery County is also high...

I just got an email from DCI that masking will be required at medium or high levels, but not at low level.
