That's most cars. The (non electric, non hybrid) car I wanted did the same. |
| I don’t get why anyone cares or why this EV thing is astroturfed across all media, by politicians, and people on message boards. It’s… just a car. I’ve driven EVs, they nice but they still just get you to point A to B just as another other car. Instead of a gas station visit once a week you charge at home and/or at work. It’s simply not life changing in any way or really worthy of wasting time thinking about, let alone obsessing over. I do not get why people make their EV car their personality. It’s honestly pathetic. Again, it’s just a car. |
People are just making stuff up on this thread. THIS is the problem with EV's. The FUD. Three days to drive to SC? Because pulling over to charge for twenty minutes changes the time space continuum? This thread is shows just how misinformed our over educated segment of society is. DYOR, but don't listen to fifteen year old FUD sound bites. |
https://www.autoevolution.com/news/we-need-to-talk-about-tesla-s-doors-and-their-hidden-manual-releases-189751.html If we're "just making stuff up," then please enlighten us. The door handle concern is a highly controversial issue. |
“…with time…” So, those concerned about such issues will wait till the industry works them out. That’s a legit reason not to get one now, which is the OP’s Q. |
| I would say the biggest aspect of EVs that keeps me from buying them is that they are EVs |
| Wonder what will happen when the first mass evacuation of an area needs to occur, the power goes out, and all these EVs will be stranded along the way. Can someone enlighten me as to how this will work? |

limited range
long long lines at charging stations around the US |
The charge is only 10 mins if you are at a super fast charger AND you are the only one there. From VA to NJ - one stop to charge my tesla = 24 minutes - once the charger became available = + another 7 minutes |
| Teslas are notably prone to breaking down. To get a to a repair station is long and tedious. The actual repair is outlandishly expensive. Broke down on the way to VA Tech - 7 hours on the side of the road. |
Nope - went from MD to Maine - f'ing disaster trying to find a charging station |

I drive a Bolt and I love it. Even in a bottom of the line EV the acceleration and control are just great. Even running it to only 90% range and not letting it get under 70 (this is good for long term battery life), I only charge it once a week. The max range is close to 280.. If you're just looking at Teslas, you're missing out on what the big automakers can do.
Thr plug in hybrids are a great option too. I have a plug in hybrid Toyota and I really only ever gas up on big trips. The 50 miles of all electric range is usually enough for a typical day. |
| I'm not anti EV, I just frankly don't care. Maybe I'll get an EV next car, maybe I won't. It doesn't matter or impact my life one way or the other. In California is it stupid NOT to buy an EV because they give you a boatload of rebates i.e. free taxpayer money. If you don't take it, you're a sap subsidizing others to buy one. |

My next car will be a plug-in hybrid or all-electric. I don't need a new car right now and prices are high. At some point the right deal will come along and I'll jump on it.
I mentioned this on my Facebook feed (I know!) and it's amazing how many of my friends instantly started feeding me lots of junk articles about how awful EVs are. It's as if there is a major industry out there paying money to sway people's opinions the other way whenever I mention heat waves in Europe or EVs or my job in the solar industry |
| I don't want to be seen in an EV. |
