LOL. You mean they didn't immediately drop what they were doing and justify their policy to you? I am SHOCKED. |
You’re right. Typically the BOEs and the school leadership in the DMV area aren’t very responsive to parents’ concerns unfortunately. |
No, I don’t expect the PPs to have heard anything back because I don’t believe they have actually emailed anyone on this issue. |

Looks like DC is ready and willing to enforce this vaccine mandate.

"And it's therefore essential that every single family include vaccines on your back to school list." |
>snort< No, they really won’t. |
I personally cannot WAIT for the specter of DC keeping disproportionately Black kids out of school. This town is garbage and can’t profess to care about equity if it does this. |
I think this is more referring to established vaccines on the vaccination list. They were really loose with vaccination requirements last year (I mean like proof of MMR, etc.). They are not going to enforce the Covid vaccination requirement. |
|
And what about kids who turn 12 during the school year? Will they kick the kids out if they haven’t received the Covid shot?
What a ridiculous policy. So many parents of younger kids are choosing not to have their kids unnecessarily vaccinated against Covid. Hopefully this vaccine mandate gets revoked before then. |
|
OSSE and DCPS put out mandates and statements all the time about being strict on things like verifying that kids live in DC and now the Covid vaccine. But these decisions as to whether or not to accept certain paperwork or lack there of happens at the school level. And most schools will not enforce the Covid vaccine mandate if it means kicking their students out. They don’t want to deal with the press, parents and ultimately being thrown under the bus by central office.
As an anecdote, my ‘highly regarded’ DCPS school tried to follow the DCPS mandate that we test 20% of students randomly each week for Covid. After week 1, several parents complained up the ladder at DCPS and all of a sudden we can’t randomly test students anymore, it has to be voluntary. DCPS is all smoke and mirrors. And equity is nonexistent when it comes to a parent with means. |

Fair point. Spot on. |

D.C. schools expand covid vaccine mandate, unlike most other districts "D.C. students who are 12 and older must be vaccinated against the coronavirus to attend school this upcoming academic year." https://archive.ph/WW0yi Re Pfizer EUA and FDA Approval. BioNtech and Comirnaty are not the same in case you missed that. |
at this point it’s statistically more likely a DCPS student will get myocarditis from the vaccine than they will get hospitalized due to covid. b/c so many already have immunity, adding the vax is mostly risk. |
| Classroom behavior will be much better this fall. |
Yes to this. This is why any mandate is unethical. |
