The fact that they want to remove a secular, federal holiday from the school calendar because Christian's celebrate is just more proof that they want public schools to favor their religion over others. These new holidays on the calendar are religious holidays and serve no other purpose than benefitting followers of that religion. |
And maintaining staffing. Look at your schools, not just teachers, I’d bet a good number are Muslim. It’s hard to have a school day when you have a significant number of bus drivers, cafeteria workers, extended day staff, assistants and teachers taking the day off. |
Really? So all the sudden this year those holidays have had staffing shortages and student absences? Doesn't seem that way in reality. |
At my APS school it is the reality every year. A lot of people take off for Eid, students and staff |
Excessive absences is a secular reason that would justify no school on a holiday. But that’s nots what’s going on and even if it was no reason for it to be a blanket rule across the district. The cultural makeup of schools are different so different holidays being a day off may be called for. |
The best part in this entire thread is that the only actual Muslim to post gave arguments why moving it so late was dumb, and the typical progressives just ignored him/her because it didn't fit their narrative of calling everyone else who questioned the date change racist. |
To be fair most of the people in the thread think we shouldn’t have it off at all |
FCPS is so incompetent they forced all the kids with APs scheduled on Eid (Psych and Enviro Science— so many) into the makeup block. Not just musilim students. And despite school being in session on Eid and a FCPS having regulation stating national exams could not be changed for religious reasons.
Then the date was moved. And they kept the APs scheduled for the old date in the makeup block. But didn’t move the new APs there. This ensuring absolutely everyone is pissed. Slow clap for FCPS. |
More like 98%. Dumb the day is off in the first place Dwali makes sense, Eid doesn’t at all. |
Meh, he should be canceled too. He was a rapist |
Yes it does. Muslim students used to miss school every year for Eid. Their families get together and have a big celebration / feast for Eid. |
I watched the LCPS School Board meeting when this was decided and listened as many Muslim parents spoke, requesting the move. |
Just bumping up this post from an actual Muslim. The bold is by me. If they were going to choose an advance day, they should have chosen Monday to begin with. |
