OP, I saw that you are lactose intolerant, so in addition to your almond milk, I vote that you buy some Lactaid. That way, in case you are in a situation where someone is offering you dairy, you will be able to have it.
Don't forget coffee; no one wants to navigate a shortage while having a caffeine-withdrawl headache. Don't forget to add water/food for the pets. Don't do what I did once (travel circumstances, not disaster prep). I bought my dog another kind of dog food. I woke up to diarreah all over the rug. Lesson learned. btw in addition to her regular food, I give her a can of sardines about once a week. Packed in water, no salt. She loves it, it's super-good for her, and it stores well. On that note, make sure you have enough doggie bags. Finally, for everyone to consider, you may be stocked up, but you know that your neighbor is going to be knocking at your door begging you to share water or food. So please just add that in, so you don't have to choose between saying no vs. not having enough for your family. |
| Op again- thank you so much for all the helpful replies! I have a chest freezer and this weekend when onions, garlic and ginger were on sale I chopped and froze a bunch to use later. I also found gyoza/wonton wrappers on sale so I made my own potstickers for a lot cheaper than Trader Joes/Costco. I found some really great YouTube videos for Indian and Bangladesh chickpea recipes. There’s an Indian market near my house where the spices are really inexpensive, so I’ve been actually eating chickpeas for breakfast since cereal is so expense. I make Indian style or a Greek chickpea salad and they’re so satisfying and filling. |
| There is always something on sale. Beans, and more beans. |
| This thread could have been started a few weeks ago when there was talk about a port workers' strike. Costco only had THREE packages of toilet paper. What the??? Stop hoarding toilet paper not affected by a port strike and now you know when the next time they say they may strike! |
This is very helpful. Thank you for sharing! |
I went last weekend and they had ZERO packages of toilet paper. I feel like someone just screwed up and they are blaming the port strike. This was the Gaithersburg Costco which is known as the Worst Costco in the World. |
Must be a bunch of day time shopping hoarders in that part of MoCo! |
