College admissions from Potomac v Holton v Madeira?

If one school has 10 percent of graduating seniors attending top X colleges and another school has 20 percent, is their college placement "similar" to you? What if it's 10 percent vs. 30 percent?

You are assuming a high school impacts admissions for top colleges. I don’t think it does, especially for need blind schools. Private high schools probably have more impact on the middle to bottom of the class in terms of outcomes.

So what explains the difference if the two private schools are basically the same wrt demographics and affluence?

I'm a current senior at Madeira and had a wonderful experience with the college counseling department and got into a Top20 school Early Decision. I would agree with the other post saying that Madeira definitely prioritizes best fit over prestige, but that is definitely a plus in my mind. Plenty of girls go to Ivies and high ranked schools, UChicago and NYU are very popular as usually 5 girls out of a class of 75 attend both. I would totally recommend!!

I think so much depends on what you want. Madeira is well known for meeting the girls where they are. It is focused on getting each girl to reach her potential and -- more importantly -- to emerge as a confident young woman who knows how to self-advocate and plot her own path. For some, that's HYP. For others, it's Oberlin or Colgate. But perhaps most importantly, they know who they are and are successful because of it, and this serves far beyond the branding of the next step.

Enjoy revisit day. Ask lots of questions, and get a sense of thew vibe. My DD is a senior and involved with revisit day. I can tell you they are very much focused on showing you who they are. I actually think she's better equipped for life (and not just for university).

Finally, to an earlier question: yes, I think co-curric makes a difference. Girls have worked with senators, NGOs, law firms, published op-eds in national publications, etc. So they get more about how the world works and what they can do to channel their passions.

It's been a tremendous school for her.
