The BRYC boys teams could play EDP. They already have some BRYC girls teams in the league. |
I thought NVUFC was an adult semi-pro team. https://www.northernvirginiaunited.com/aboutus |
They are, but they recently expanded into youth Super Y teams. |
Why does this sound like a troll post? Why am I supposed to know how easy or hard it is to get into ecnl or mls? Is that knowledge you are just born with and so obvious that once asked, it becomes a troll post? Also, why does having knowledge about what's going on internally mean that I'm a troll? Please enlighten this "troll." |
So having a boy in the shuffle, what is my choice?
1: going with ECNL badge (mainly VYS) and experiencing degraded team performance in ECNL for 2022-2023 season? -- Maybe the BRAVE team will survive ECNL? -- what if BRAVE got boot out? My boy settling down at VYS. 2: going with NVU and playing EDP, same shit, and MOst likely also degrade team performance -- are those coaches trustable, one years or years in the future? -- Comfortable at EDP may not / may necessarily fit my boy? in All, BRYS boys travel is gone. I can image all boys go to VYS and SYC/Burke. |
What have other families said about this situation? Are they moving/staying? The leagues don't make the players. It's about the environment they are in if they are able to develop. If they have done so far under coaching staff it's likely they will continue developing just with another name and league. The big question is what the majority of players will do and if enough will follow for teams to maintain their standard of play. I haven't seen many BRYC teams play outside of the one in my DC's age group but from what I see in tournament results, I feel that they are always a division too high and living off of the BRYC name. Maybe this could be a good change for everyone to rebrand themselves. |
Why do you think that the BRAVE ECNL will be "degraded team performance" as compared to the soon-to-be-defunct BRYC ENCL team performance? How does the collaboration with VYS (and presumably the addition of the top talent from VYS that makes the jump from VYS Eagles to BRAVE ECNL) result in a "degraded" team? If you were happy enough with BRYC ECNL to have your boys playing on that team this year (or if your kids are younger BRYC players considering BRYC ECNL for future years) I don't know what changed. Of course, if you were already unsatisfied with BRYC ECNL, and we already looking to go to another ECNL club, the question then becomes does the new BRAVE ECNL team represent enough of a change for you to stick with BRYC. |
I can tell you why the BRYC families are upset. BRYC operates with "composite" teams. This means there are 30 plus kids on each ECNL team. 10 of which probably never set foot on an ECNL field but are able to claim being on an ECNL team. They do get to practice with ECNL players so the training is good. With this new partnership that is now gone. Out of the 30 players probably half will be cut. My guess is about 2/3 of each ECNL team will retain the top BRYC players but the top VYS players will displace the bottom of the roster. And all of the composite players are now going to be on an ECNL regional BRYC team. They will play games as BRYC and not under this new BRAVE team. I am guessing there will be quite a bit of duel rostering going on to appease players and families of both clubs but the days of being one of 30 players on an ECNL team are over. |
Thanks. That explains why some BRYC parents would be upset. I don't know if it would play out like that, but if it did, I think that would be a sign of success. If VYS's top players are better than some of the current BRYC players, and take their roster spots, it should make the BRAVE team stronger than what it was when it was just BRYC. So that's why I don't understand the reference to the BRYC ECNL team (soon-to-be BRAVE) being "degraded" because of the joint venture. Some BRYC kids will lose their places, yes, but all things being equal the BRAVE ECNL would be a stronger team than BRYC ECNL was. |
Pls specific about Boys or Girls.
There is big difference. Anyway, for BOYS!!!, VYS does not stand out in EDP play, and with some previous VYS players on BYRC ECNL teams already, I do believe VYS replacing BRYC for ECNL is getting lower performance, if most BRYC BOYS players moving to NVU. The initial concept is to consolidate, but with what is happening for BOYS side, it basically introduced a new NVU club into Nothern Virgina boys' landscape. Good or bad, time will tell. I feel it is going to be a bad thing, well, I only care about my boy, to make things easy he may go alone with NVU. sadly, no option is better than another. |
Is NVUFC actually starting boys teams for regular season play or is that still just a rumor? |

Finally, we met, boys side and girls side parents from current BRYC ECNL. I would say it is different from BRYC boys, an afterthought of BRYC, we (means coaches, players) were not treated the same by the BRYC. Not I care about those small things, when it comes to the future, people will spoke out. You may not know what has happened on boys' side or what will happen on the boys' side. As for my understanding, BRYC Boys' Travel program will be gone after this May. Most boys' coaches will be gone. (As they said), what the impact is SOME OF BRYC Boys ECNL players moving to NVU, I would say at least 50%. We could discuss the percentage of player movement you think. |
The initial materials distributed at BRYC and VYS said that the best players will make Brave. If you are making the assumption that BRYC is better than VYS on the boys side and therefore all the BRYC kids will be upset and leave for NVU or elsewhere, then of course Brave teams will suffer. VYS alone isn't going to be big enough or good enough to build competitive ECNL teams. That's especially true on the boys side. In my opinion, those are bad assumptions. What makes you think that BRYC families would leave a Fairfax ECNL team that practices on local fields for unproven NVU program that has never even fielded teams before? Isn't BRYC is badly in need of some organization and professionalism? I haven't heard anyone deny that, and if VYS can bring that then its a huge plus even if nothing else changes. My guess for the boys is that VYS beings an influx of talent at younger age groups, but has a little less to offer at older age groups. On average maybe 50-70% of Brave rosters next year will be current BRYC kids. Maybe 25% will come from VYS and the remaining amount will join from elsewhere in Fairfax county. Those kids could be good too and be opting for Brave as opposed to driving further to other established ECNL clubs. Union and VDA are both partnerships. I think that's what it takes to succeed in ECNL if you are not as big as Loudoun or Arlington. If the launch is organized, then I think top BRYC boys stay and you will be surprised how good these Brave teams are. Whether or not the 27th best player on a 30 person roster sticks around for ECNL regional league is a different question. Regional league is probably the right competition for those kids though, and still should be a better option than NVU. I know some people are hyping up NVU, but I just don't see it at all. Good luck with that. |
I think a lot of people are missing the longer-term benefits of combination with VYS. I can only speak to boys side. VYS boys are much better at younger ages than BRYC. Over time, those players leave VYS for other top clubs in the area. If you have a closer credible pathway that will practice some of the time in Vienna and likely to include top teammates from Vienna, then those kids are more likely to stay with VYS/BRYC as they age. That may be worth three or four top players going out of Vienna who don't stay with VYS and would never go to BRYC under previous circumstances. You can also safely assume another 2-3 top kids on VYS boys would make BRYC ECNL. That is a major potential roster upgrade for any boys team. |
